Note to people:  Just because you may lawfully carry a firearm, openly or concealed, does not magically turn you into a an officer of the law.  Doh  crazy2

Just another example of the foibles of open carry in an urban environment.

What a moron......I've seen a few guys around here open carry.....almost always young guys....it didn't bother me in the least.....I didn't question them about it....I like mine concealed....and have been carrying it more and more lately.....given the sad state of affairs the world is coming to....hope I never have to pull it out......but I will if I need to protect myself.....

Exactly I cannot believe that this man thought he could do this, what was going through his mind. But it ended peacefully and lawfully without a incident.

If carrying a pistol gives you an increased level of testosterone (or an erection), you probably should find a new hobby (and consult a doctor).

Open carry. while allowed in some states, appears to me that someone is wanting to show off his manliness or his defiance, or both.  To me,  it can create entirely the wrong attitude by the general public and we don't need that.  It does nothing to further the Cause of carrying in defense of selves or others.

Mass Ayoob,a LEO and a REAL expert in self defense and legalities of carrying, does not recommend carrying openly unless you are a LEO.  Maybe we have cop wannabees here.

We have open carry here in Missouri. I prefer C C. Luckily no one got shot. Going to have to add   misinterpretation of a law to ignorance of a law. I've seen open carry here in the micky Ds and you can tell the out of staters from the looks on their face. RIDE SAFE.

I've seen people of all ages and ethnicity open carry.

Doesn't bother me at all.

What did bother me was the complete and utter git who whipped out his "hidden" 9mm with laser at my local bar. He wanted to show off his new laser   uglystupid2 He was a semi regular and was quickly told to get out and never come back.

Knowing quite a few regulars who are CC permit holders, myself included,  he had no idea how close he was to being in a mess of trouble.

The prettiest was the slim auburn haired young woman who asked if I was in line at the "Burger Bar" in Tellico Plains.

I told her that with what she was packing she could cut in line at any time.  Evil

She appreciated both ways the comment could be taken .  Evil

She had a really nice leather holster and a wood handled revolver on her right hip.

"Stupid is as stupid does"!  Dang!  I get so tired of seeing and hearing of these idiots!

I don't concern myself too much with who has a gun.  What does concern me is how well trained they are if they do choose to carry.  Just how well have they thought out the possible scenarios they might encounter?  Have they trained for those scenarios?

It seems obvious to me that any civilian that is carrying in the open has not thought through the consequences of that action.  They might as well carry a flashing sign saying kill me first.  That is exactly what is going to happen if they encounter someone who has the intent to rob or massacre people.  Until that happens, they will just cause more bad publicity for people that carry responsibly.

Why would you take a chance by initiating an argument with another gun carrying person?  (I do know the answer to this, but it is absurd!)  If you are carrying and you get involved in a fight for any reason, it will be a fight with a gun involved.  It will be a gun involved fight because you are carrying a gun and you are in the fight.  You do not even have to pull it out.  Also, if the fight does lead to a shooting, you will have initiated it!  You might get off legally, but in the opinion of the non carrying public you will look like a gangster or thug.  If this is the kind of thing you do, if this is where your head is at, then you are the kind of person I hate to see with a gun.

Why would you expect something like this to not happen.  Just because its guns, doesn't mean that some people are any different than they are at any other thing.  Driving an auto for instance, or almost any other endeavor you can name.  There are ass hats even riding motorcycles.  It doesn't have to be a gun to be a deadly weapon.  Of course the anti-gunners among us will blow this one incident up to reinforce their agenda.  The world is full of what ifs, and sounds like the fellow that was accosted handled it pretty well.  Wonder how many thousands took this new ruling in stride and didn't have any problems.

Its good that turned out the way it did. What a moron.
I used to open carry on my bike. When i started i noticed people were driving safer around me. Less road rage and more respect.  It was an obvious statement with a Silver .357 with a 6" barrel. I dont carry open anymore tho.

I see open carry around here nearly every week. Doesn't seem to be a big deal to anybody. I don't generally open carry but I like to see it. If I'm headed for the woods my handgun is generally too big for comfortable concealed carry and I'll open carry then. And, of course, a 5lb scoped handgun in 7mm/08 if I'm deer hunting with a handgun would be a little hard to conceal anyway. Grin I also usually but not always open carry in the gun shop. I think it's good to avoid being predictable when working in the shop so sometimes I carry an exposed PMR 30 and sometimes my concealed poodle shooter.

Thankfully, want-to-be LEO/authority figures like that moron don't seem to happen much. Generally, people who know they are too unstable to carry a gun don't do so and spend their time opposing carry since they assume everyone is as crazy as they are. It sounded to me like the guy he confronted handled it well. I would imagine the moron is done legally carrying a firearm and that's a good thing.

"...Georgia's so-called "guns everywhere" law went into effect, allowing residents to carry guns into bars, nightclubs, classrooms, and certain government buildings. Among other things, the law also prohibits police from demanding to see the weapons permit of someone seen carrying a gun."

Why would that guy approach the other one and ask for his permit? That is as stupid as it gets. In Or its a open carry state just like Az. and here it seems to be no big deal. I very seldom see someone with a gun . In Az. its a different story, people there still think its the wild west. Go to any swap meet and there are hundreds of guns for sale. I had a friend ride up for a visit when I was living in Prescott, Az.  and came out of a 7-11 store to see two men facing off in the parking lot. He about s-it a brick being from Socal. I've also seen bikers of a certain kind wearing two six shooters on there hip. Cowboy wantabes. I have been stopped by the cops for speeding (10 over) and asked about my pistol. He checked it out and returned it to me and said have a good day.

After reading all the replies here, I still think that OC in normal circumstances (lots of people around like in a Mall) is still not a good idea.

However, I do see that it might help when riding. As Roger Dangerfield said, "I get no respect"  That might change if oc on a motorcycle.  cooldude

Poor Rodney.  People don't even bother to remember his name.  Maybe open carry would have helped with Rodney's issue.   Wink
