Why not use commercially available tire studding kit?

The guy is determined. Must have taken him 6-8 hours. I'll bet the tires won't run 100 miles - studs are too long. They'll push thru & chafe into the tubes.

I guess if used just for racing a race or two, go for it?   Undecided

Otherwise, stay off the ice.

I can vouch for regular NON studded snow tires in winter on my vehicles.  I never believed in them and could probably get by without them in 95% of road conditions in winter, but the fact remains that they do slow you down braking MUCH better and better traction all around in the winter.  I didn't believe it until I got a set used, like new, off of Craigslist.

I'd take a FWD vehicle with snow tires over my 4wd pickup on OEM P-rated tires in all winter conditions except VERY deep snow due to ground clearance issues.

The tires have to be made specifically for studs to use that. That wouldn't do much good for ice racing anyway. These guys get tremendous grip on ice.
