If YOU NEVER TRIED HOW DO YOU KNOW

I am thinking of patenting this for motorcycles.

Will this catch on?

Looks wild, but it would work.

Remember the parachute comes out to give you a soft landing.

It would be great for getting rid of a passenger that's for sure, especially if you get the idea of changing passengers quickly.

For a lot of guys I could see people just launching themselves just for the heck of it.

From a safety POV, Honda already has an airbag so this would be another great option for the Wing.

Only run a few million a copy.  And rocket fuel/explosive bolts will get you a visit from the Feds.

Maybe a compressed coil spring off some heavy equipment and an umbrella.

Aren't you supposed to pull the cord BEFORE the plane hits the ground?  uglystupid2

Part of the job I was trained for in the Navy was the Martin Baker ejection seat. If things aren't just right a pilot can be seriously hurt during the ejection sequence. There are pilots whose careers have ended after punching out. NOT because of the loss of an expensive piece of hardware-but because the were boogered up for the rest of their life due to the ejection. The ejection system is kind of a last ditch effort. They-ejection systems-have saved many lives. Beats the alternative all to hell and back. RIDE SAFE.

If you're airborne yes.  But most pilots will try to save the plane if possible.  Looks like a V/stall Harrier (trickier than the average bear to fly, and a likely mishap in the hover-to-fly mode).  The seat is designed to blow you high enough even from the ground to deploy the chute before you come back down.  Quicker to depart a giant burning avgas tank this way, than try and unstrap/unplug and climb out (not to mention those warheads on the wings).  No doubt a real pants pooping event.

When I got my F16B backseat ride, the yellow ejection handle was right there in your crotch.  It was advised you get your arms inboard if you wanted to keep them.  My pilot told me the only reason I should pull it was if he ordered me to or he passed out.  That sounded like real good advice (but I wished he had not talked about passing out).   Grin

Seven to nine G's in a fighter plane is some of the finest excitement you can find anywhere.

I don't want to second guess that pilot, but, considering how detrimental to ones health an ejection seat can be,  I would have been seriously considering just opening the canopy in the normal manner and scrambling out as quickly as I could.
