This bike was $20,000! I was beside myself. Pictures don't do it justice.

I'm in agreement with you KY,Dave!  Fell in love with the CBX on first sight. Older brothers friend had one. He let me ride it but I had to let him ride my CB900F. He was rough on bikes but I really wanted to ride that CBX. I remember the sound of it, like a jet on take off! Seemed like it would accelerate forever!
I was actually looking at a CBX to buy last summer. Found a really nice clean one just northwest of here in Brunswick, Ohio. It was the model with matching bags and fairing. While I was thinking about that I went and looked at a Valkyrie(first one). After that, as they say "the rest is history".
My gut told me that the Valk looked good and I could ride it and depend on it hundreds of miles away from home. The CBX looked good but it was more fitted to as some say here on the VRCC, butt jewelry. That's fine because that is one beautiful piece of machinery! I still have my eyes open for one.

Back in 1982, there was a surplus of Japanese bikes.  I went up to a Honda dealer and had my choice of a 900F or a CBX (the blue and white with bags)  Both were $2450.00 out the door. I picked the 900F.

Dummy.

still amazes me how some Honda, and other mfgs., bikes built in the 80's fetch still a pretty penny.  Besides this one being unique,  even the older early to mid 80's Honda Magna's attempt to fetch around or near 3 grand.  Back in 1988 I had a chance to buy a 1985 Honda Magna mint condition with ONLY 800 miles on it for 3800 which at the time being 18 years old, was a lot of money I didn't have back then.  If I could have bought it and kept it in good shape still, it would still probably fetch close to 3 grand today even with 30-40K miles on it.  Do I think even that bike today is worth over 2500, NO way, but seems like someone somewhere will pay top dollar, maybe??

It was the Sept. of "84 for me, Solo. Except my choices were a "82 CB900F and a "82 KZ1000. Mark Smith Honda in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio $1850.00. It was a really tough decision. Speed of the Kaw, versus smoothness and look of the Honda. Silver and royal blue paint and bodywork just flowed like a lazy river. Honda won out also. Wish I had the CBX to pick from. I woulda snatched that up!

The CBX was an awesome muscle bike in its time.  Wonder why you didn't see a lot of them on the road?  A friend bought a new one when they first came out and he and his wife left Houston and traveled to Canada.  A week later 3 more friends left Houston and headed for California on Honda 550 or 500 CX 500 I think, and a week after they left my buddy on his 1st yr goldwing and me on my 1971 BMW 750 boxer left for Denver.  We flew our wives to Denver and picked them up at the airport.  Now this was pre  cellphone Era so we all had agreed to meet at an intersection in Wyoming on the following Tuesday.  Everyone showed up within a 2 hr period.  It was awesome.  We all did a week long tour of Colorado together  and rode home to Houston together.  Great trip.
