Many years ago I worked with a fool who liked to drink (a lot) and keep rattlesnakes as pets   crazy2

During one of his wild weekend parties he got liquored up and pulled out his largest rattler to impress his redneck buddies. Long story short, the snake bit him twice in the face and  messed him up really bad.....almost killed him. He missed two months of work and his face was disfigured from then on.

Thats almost as smart as jacking your car up, and crawling under it without a jack stand under the frame.  uglystupid2    I've seen how that goes a bunch of times and the outcome is never good.

What about the shark expert plonker who was hugging nurse sharks and progressed to flipping them over on their backs and then kissing them. Out with the scuba breather thingie and plant one on the lips of a nurse shark.

HE GOT BITTEN. Nearly took his bottom lip off.

We had that happen near us a few years back. The father jacked up a car and had his son crawl under, to which he then pushed the car off the jack and walked away. He left his son there to die and of course at first denied all responsibility.
A decade earlier his wife mysteriously died and the law didn't consider him. After the son incident they went back and made a case for his wife's murder.
He is now doing time for both.

We all are capable of doing some pretty stupid things at time. But stuff like this makes one just shake his head and back away.

Yeah, but that was a cotton mouth.
My experience with them is that they are born pissed off and get meaner as they get older.

True that. A Copperhead is another one not to fool with. They're born pissed off

We had some fool  kid here in Florida that was keeping a water moccasin for a pet. Tried to kiss it on the head, he is the local hospital in ICU. Another one for the Darwin award.

Could be. There was just another mauling of an 8 yr old.  That might explain it.

A Cotton Mouth is aggressive, period. I used to bass fish in the glades in a perogue that had around 2 inches of freeboard when dead in the water. A water moccasin could try to climb in the boat with you if they were given a chance. That was one of the reasons I fished with a .357 loaded with rat shot. Even the FL Fish and Game officers were cool with that, once the reason for a firearm on a boat was explained to them. Of course, when deep sea fishing, a Ruger Mini 14 was on board for the two legged sharks that thought your fishing boat should become part of their drug running flotilla. Coast Guard safety checks at the docks were sometimes interesting.   angel

Umm...I'm all for guns and I'm all for fishing but here's how I see that playing out:  Snake makes it into the boat, you squeeze off a round or three, kill the snake, sink the boat, all the snake's buddies seek their revenge.   cooldude

Spent my younger days around Cotton Mouths/Copper Heads.   I found that the Cotton Mouths were very territorial and aggressive.   Had the come after me more than once.  There were also one of the strongest snakes for their size I have ever messed with.

The Copper Heads were not as aggressive.   Usually it was the third person walking by them that got struck at.  Took the first on to wake them up and second to tick them off.

I have in younger days messed with the "Rat Shots" or bird shot in a 357 (38sp).   If loaded properly, it should sink your boat.  It will leave a mark on it though.

I read in the paper and heard from witnesses that saw that very thing happen to a kid swimming in Guntersville Lake (North Alabama) He was jumping off some rock and landed right into the ball. He didn't make it.
