With some exceptions in big cities (where many LEOs simply cannot afford the mortgage or rent), it is my understanding most LEOs nationwide are required to live in the town (or county) they police.  With the exception of big cities, I think it's a good idea.  LEOs like military are perceived as being on duty 24/7, and if called in for any reason, need to be reasonably close by.

However, LEOs home addresses, phones, and other personal data is and must be very closely held information.    

Used to be true... not anymore. Ohio Supreme Court struck down residency requirements about 5 years ago. That is now becoming to the norm, no residency required.

And that's how it should be....

On a larger scale I have read and heard where many of the pundits and politicians are claiming that what happened to Gray, Brown, et al represents an epidemic of police brutality, some even calling them murderers. Hogwash I say.

But here's my problem: If the black community is so convinced that all cops are out to get them and murder them, then why would they continue to seek out confrontation with them? Does it not seem logical to avoid like the plague someone you are convinced wants to see you dead at their hands?

Easy way to prevent and avoid such events. Don't break the f***ing law.

And for those clamoring that Freddy Gray was a poor victim. His rap sheet is as long as your arm and there was an outstanding warrant for his arrest on assault charges that was issued in March, 2015. I'm not trying to justify his death and if those 6 officers were complicit in his death by inflicting such severe injuries they should all spend a lot of time in the stoney lonesome. But the Maryland State Attorney claiming that his arrest was illegal is patently false.

OK Pete, I did not know this was changing.  Everybody should live where they want.  I don't want to live in or near any big city, but I also have not enjoyed long commutes to the sweatshop. 

I loved living on base....... behind the wire, with everyone having a background clearance. 

I did not like living two blocks from the Libyan embassy overseas.

Some small glimmer of hope right here, they need to find this mom and give her a Nobel Peace Prize!

I would more hope if the fathers in that community would man up and yank the boys out of there.

That's what I've read as well. Interesting that 50% of the officers charged in the case are black. So I wonder how the community is going to deal with that. Any way you cut it, the loss of any life, allegedly at the hands of a public servant, must not be tolerated.

Several guys a couple nights ago in Baltimore, kept yelling about being afraid of the cops.  The cops were out to kill them.  They would never trust the cops.  They wanted to know the number of blacks killed by cops in a year.

The last year for data, the number was in the 120's.  TOTAL blacks killed by officers. I am sure the vast majority of them were totally correct.  Robbers, murders, died in shootouts, etc.  Only some would even be questionable.

During that same year, BLACKS killed between 8,000 and 9,000 BLACKS!

So, if YOU were BLACK, who should YOU be afraid of?  Cops, or other blacks?

These people seem to want the cops to back off on law enforcement.  That is what they keep calling for.  That cops are going after too many blacks.  It is unfair, they claim.

So, back off. Let it go.  Maybe they will see how many MORE 1000's of BLACKS will be killed by BLACKS!

But, 10 blacks will NOT be killed by cops!  So, it will be a good deal to them.

Has a nice talk last month with an LEO up in Cold Spring and brought up the topic of living where you work

She replied no way,   everyone is in your business

The Baltimore mayor is an idiot, and so are the people who voted her in

Those rioters are a disgrace to all those who won their civil rights
with non violent protest  

Those Violent Rioters are IMHO not entitled to any protection and are begging for trouble
and if it comes to them it dont bother me

I feel for each of those policemen and women who are trying their best being second guessed by
an unthinking mob mentality

If you are told to stay by a cop, you should not run, it aint rocket science

13-14% of the population commits 60-65% of violent crime.  This is nationwide, and is higher in cities. (this is blacks, and not counting hispanics)

The cops' prime directive is to stop and apprehend violent criminals.  If you don't want the cops zeroing in on you, quit committing so much violent crime. 

I'm not sure what could be more harmful to solving this issue or image or police focus than violent raging rioting, looting and burning.
