Excessive comfort breeds weakness. PttP

« on: April 28, 2015, 10:00:43 AM »

After some discussion the VRCC staff has come to an agreement that Al of Tennessee has repeatedly demonstrated an unwillingness to be a positive contribution to the VRCC community.  His posting privileges have been terminated.

If you need someone to blame I will take the responsibility.  I was the staff member who brought up the subject.  For what it worth, Al had removed himself multiple times and on occasion I helped him figure out how to get himself back on the board.  I had hoped the interaction would be something different than it has turned out to be.

I thought his last number of posts were positive.  But, maybe you removed the bad ones before I got to see them.  Too bad.

Overall (and for many years), it seems to me the (official) VRCC acts with great restraint and allows wide latitude with very little interference in member's postings.  Rules against personal threats, attacks and naked pictures do not seem unreasonable at all.  I am glad they provide us with this forum to enjoy as a community and an annual bike rally.  Keeping the peace (or good order and discipline) here is everyone's responsibility, but ultimately falls to the leadership.  There is a difference between carrying on a hearty or even heated debate, and poking member's in the eye.  And it is a Valkyrie forum, though we talk about other things.

That's all I have to say about that.

I think Big Al made some valid points along the way, but sometimes in too much of an argumentive or 'stir the pot' sort of way.

Either way,  if I no longer owned something I was on a forum about, I would probably not be posting much at all since no longer have an interest in it.

I normally read Big Al's post. I haven't seen anything that I thought was reason to kick him off the board. Been on this board for a few years it doesn't take long to decide who's post I want to avoid.

I agree with you bill ( Ban someone for there points of view and beliefs ) cooldude.  If that is the case then why isn't half of the member ship booted off?? sounds like there is something else going on under the table.  this is the Valkyrie Riders Cruiser Club not the Valkyrie Riders Cruiser Club CNN OR CNBC news room. I have read back through the 20 or more post and have seen nothing that was posted or said that caused this action to be taken. no more that some of the other post. going to miss you Big AL

I appreciate your perspectives.

Not all the staff members would necessarily give you the same reasons, but all agreed that Al had "worn out his welcome."

What I have noticed is that people who know Al personally are excepting of what he has to say and his constant inclination to "stir the pot".  What I have to consider is that we have hundreds (thousands) of reader who have not met Al.

An exercise that some of you will not be able to experience is spending just a few months monitoring a message board with the intention of heading off trends that will chase away marginal users.  I have a friend (it's spelled with the i before the e) that used to comment that he'd never met a VRCC member that he didn't like.  After monitoring the board for awhile I could not join him in that perspective.  By the way, anyone that thinks anyone has been removed simply because I don't like someone is incorrect.  the list is much too long for that to happen.  LOL!

I like Al.  I personally don't like how Al has chosen to be.  For some insight into who I don't particularly care for, I have no patience for disrespect or for people who are self absorbed, full of themselves.

Once more, I appreciate your perspectives and I do understand that not everyone (almost no one?) will agree with the tough decisions that need to be made to try to maintain the health of the VRCC community.

By the way, in the recent past Al did not drink and post.  Al has been away from drink for almost two years now.  He is to be admired for that decision and for the success of actuating that decision.

See you all in Spearfish.

I doubt Al was kicked off for his views.

I am rather sure it was HOW he expressed them.

I too, congratulate Al for being on the wagon for almost two years.  Good Work, Al.

We have gained and lost many members thru the years

Some move on when they sell as no longer seeing the relevance

Others get themselves flustered and leave

Others the Lord called back and we have just their memories  Those hurt the most

Al, well Al has come and gone a whole bunch

He was there for me when i needed help once and I appreciated that help
freely given, and paid back immediately that day

I know we will cross paths again and look forward to that day

Sorry to see he pushed the envelope too far

But the VRCC is not owned by us

It required we follow the rules of the sandbox if we wish to remain

I am one of my those "marginal" users that was put off by Al.  Although many found him entertaining, I found him to be insecure, insensitive, with an insatiable need to be heard.  I am guessing he got his fair share of ass kicking as a kid well into adulthood.  I am a firm believer in free speech, but he has been given a wide berth on this site to the point of abuse
.  His rant regarding the Koran a few years back was over the top, and led to my limited participation on this board.  I think Willows decision to part ways with this clown gave new credence to this board.

just didn't care for his putting down honda and our bikes.
didn't he own a valkyrie at one time and went back to a HD?

Hey, Dan, good to hear from you.

It is true he now has a Harley.  But, he owned a Valkyrie for quite a while.  I have ridden with Al in Maggie Valley at VOAI Reunion one year. At that time he was still drinking quite heavy.  I liked him sober.  Drinking, not so much.

We have always told members that they are free to hang around if they sell the Valk.  Al, at times, has abused that.  LOL

Anybody that cries and says he is leaving should not be allowed back on the board in the first place but I will not challenge any of our staff in their decisions.  The majority have been very good.  I didn't block his post but chose to mentally skip past them.

Jeez Louise, since I'm selling my Valkyrie Monday for a DOLLAR to my son, and all I have left is a Harley Davidson now will I be in jeopardy?

Guess I'll have to watch whose toes I step on.
