There is something satisfying about helping a brother in need and completing a task that may be just too hard for one person.

A few years back my friend Carey (Kickstand) helped me do a rear wheel service just before a surgery. At the time I was suffering partial paralysis and I was very weak and couldn't do the work myself. I needed to do the rear wheel service as a post surgery motivator. I was told that (post surgery) I would never drive a car again. I looked my surgeon in the eyes and told him that within six weeks I was going to ride my motorcycle in a worldwide relay. He looked at me in a puzzled and shocked way as if I was delusional. I explained that I was a life long motorcyclist and my motorcycle was going to be a part of my motivation and rehabilitation.

Within six weeks I was able to participate in the hand off of the mugs from our Canadian VRCC brothers in the Valhalla Voyage and then being able to ride to Timbr's "Q in Da Woods". That was the start of my cerebral rehabilitation and I promised to help others in need of help when they needed assistance. As bikers, our motivations may be somewhat skewed, but that's what we have chosen in our life styles.

Today I was able to return the favor to Kickstand. We removed the rear wheel, pumpkin and drive shaft, and a few minutes later the UPS driver pulled up and delievered a new Avon Cobra. He will be having the tire mounted and balanced at a repair facility. When that is completed we will clean and grease the splines, drive shaft, and then reassemble everything.

It truly feels good to help a brother, as I know that we can count on each other for more than mechanical help. Fellowship and moral support can sometimes count for far more than wrench support.

That is actually how Hard6 and I became so close as brothers.  It all started with him helping me with things that I thought were beyond my ability with a new bike.  He lived in the same state and told me to ride over and he would help/oversee me work. As we worked over the bike, one thing led to another, trips were planned and the next thing you knew, he was a dear brother to me.....and we spent close to 100,000 miles of wind together......In fact, I think it was a rear tire change and spline lube as well that started it all.......

It all started with a brother helping a brother.......

Good read Momz!

Yes the Valkyrie motorcycle is responsible for many friendships.  I have made several good friends by sharing sweat and grease over wheel R/R, Valve adjustings and even riding them sometimes....LOL

I must admit, I am a recipient of the "good of the brotherhood" when it comes to Valkyrie projects. I and quite a few others will attest to the generous help Troutdude, Mitch and many others unnamed have contributed to the health and well-being of our bikes thus keeping us safe and/or comfortable. We are truly blessed to have all the incredible "wrenches and technicians" in our midst and each of us who have called on a brother for assistance should take advantage of this forum to point out these folks generosity and name them. I met a lot of folks at the past Inzane that I know give assistance to fellow bikers without even being asked. That is both amazing and wonderful and should be applauded frequently. Take them to lunch, dammit. LOL
