It's almost May and I believe this is the first (well, maybe third) time it's been out this year. There have been days it would have been appropriate but usually I leave early in the morning to not return until after sunset. Today I was working from home and didn't leave until a late lunch.
I didn't really have time for a long outing, enough to take the bike for a rinse, blow dry the beast, and get a bite to eat. Maybe I stretched it a bit. What should have been a half hour lunch break turned into an hour and fifteen.
I added a little air to the Falken. At thirty-eight it tends to develop a bit of undulation in a slight lean at ninety-five indicated. Forty pounds seems to make that go away. You can imagine that even after two years any undulation manifesting itself through the bars tends to spook me a bit.
I stopped at the Quik Trip to purchase some nourishment. Quik Trip is where I go to buy things I shouldn't consume. I parked next to a car full of younger folks. I'm sixty-four so almost everyone is younger. A young man got out and asked, "Is that a new model that Honda has come out with? I've not seen a Valkyrie before."
"No. It's been almost fourteen years since they stopped making these." I was on the Interstate. Then I probably confused him. "The last year Honda put out the Valkyrie was 2003. They had an engineer that thought maybe a hot rod version of the Goldwing would be cool with six carbs and a hotter cam."
"Yeah, my uncle had a Goldwing." There were a few more compliments exchanged and we went into where the supplies are distributed.
It was a good day for a short ride. I believe there will be more to come.
