Going through Green Bay today and I saw a couple of flashing signs "Watch for Motorcycles" etc.
Thank You A.B.A.T.E.  I appreciate your efforts.
All the publicity about texting and diving hasn't stopped very many people.  Drunk drivers keeps on killing people.
There are too many people that just don't care about whose life they put in jeopardy no matter how they are told or how they read it or how often.
I hope the flashing messages are read but if people are texting they won't see the signs.
Please don't misunderstand me.  Any way to bring awareness to motorcycles on the road is great and I hope it works.

ABATE of Wisc. Is a power house!  I have read that they can draw over 10k riders to Mad Town for their freedom rides!!!  While here in Fla. We have 6k members, and can get only a couple hundred to Tally.   Out State House members adjourned before the session ended, because they and the Senate couldn't reach a compromise on the budget.  BTW, both chambers and our Governor are Republican.  So our hopes, again, were lost on getting a stiffer penalties bill through.  Been working on this three years now and this was the closest we've come.  We will be there again, those who care, and try again next year.  And when you come to Fla. you may ride helmetless  because of those motorcyclists who give a small amount of time and or money to ABATE of Florida inc.

When living in the Quad Cities area, NW Illinois, ABATE, among several other organizations, would kick off the Annual Bi-State Awareness Ride/Parade. Usually held the 1st Saturday in May.

Not only raising awareness to watch for motorcycles being back out on the road (limited riding season in that area) but also raising funds for a local worthy cause. This typically took place leaving from one side of the river (once from the CASE IH parking lot), and would cruise through the streets across the Mighty Mississip via The Centennial Bridge and stop at another large area that may or may not have had various vendors.

I had picked up my Standard in April of 97 and was able to participate in 3 of these rides, accompanied by my son Nick (then a pre-teen) filling the passenger pillion while we were residing in the QC Area.

I had always regretted not snapping a pic of the then non digital old school yellow signs reading: "Caution Watch for Motorcycles".

My understanding is that these no longer take place due, in part, to city related costs for police support/participation. Sad since this not only was for a worthy cause but also provided for some great mental snapshots of moments in time for my son and I.

Isn't this Motorcycle Awareness Month?  I seem to remember signs like that last year, but they didn't become permanent
