Broke my left ring finger at work today. My boss took me to the Redimed clinic they use for work injuries. After nearly three hours they told me its broken. Go to see a surgeon tomorrow. Twila says they will likely have to pin it. We shall see. We are still planing on going to Inzane it just will be in the car. Damn this sucks. On top of it I rode to work today so tomorrow I will have to take my brother to the shop to get my bike. Boss put my bike in the shop for me. Did I say how much this sucks.........

Well, I'm not a doctor and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but shoot that ain't nothing that you can't fix with a paper clip and some super glue. Looks kinda painful. Looks alot painful actually. Hope you mend well!

Only three hours in emergency care? Good thing you didn't have a knife stuck in your chest :crazy2 "Well, let's see here, what's your problem, pilgrim?" Ahhhh, the wonders of modern medicine. Just be careful of the guy who comes in to wave some chicken bones and magical feathers over your finger when they roll you into surgery. That'll be the most expensive finger that you'll ever have once the sawbones get through with it; is it the numero uno middle one? Display it proudly, sir!

Hey, it's only one finger. As soon as they get a pin it it , you're gold. You don't really use the left ring finger anyway, do you? It's gonna hurt about midnight or 0100.

If the lateral view of that finger is lined up as well as that AP view they wouldn't be taking me to surgery, just Sayin.

Ouch!!
I stuck my left ring finger in a chipper. They sewed it back on (just the last joint). I was in the ER all damn day.
I swear, more righties damage that finger than any other. We hold stuff with the left hand, then saw, run power tools, and swing hammers at it with the right.
Heads up, going for doorknobs with the left hand is a mistake. Jamming it hurts almost as bad as the original injury.

Am betting you end up riding out there still. Just a bet but that clutch can be pulled by hooking your thumb over the lever at worst. Best case is that the other fingers will do the job.

i cant believe that you would let a little thing like that keep you from riding,, only takes a couple fingers to pull the clutch in,, go ahead and man up and ride,, you dont need no pins, line the bones up and tape a Popsicle stick to it..couple weeks you will be good as new...

Where there is a will there is a way.
Last May, I broke my ring finger on my left hand. After getting it splinted I tried to pull the clutch leaver in and couldn't do it, plus the pain was bad. I kept at it though and after a while I was able to pull the clutch in with some finesse.
I would say, don't count yourself out just yet. Keep your hopes up.

A cast!? Well, that puts a crimp in things. I guess some doctors just don't know what is most important. I'm glad you're getting it taken care of. If he asks you tell him Willow suggests a titanium pin and letting you get on with life.

Better drain the carbs, check the float valves, and make sure the petcock works properly in the "off" position. I can see all our forum members poised over their keyboards typing "Hydrolock" at this very moment! All the best with the finger. I dread an accident like that as I am a guitarist! Cheers, Mark

Yeah, it's just a finger. However, with a cast the only thing that he could ride now is a Silver Wing or the latest in Honda's auto traany motorcycles.
I'm not sure if he feels PO'd or relief. Workmans Comp, on the job, and he can't work as a GM tech for now. He's left handed to boot. Obviously, he can drive so that helps.
Yeah, there's lots of worse things.

I am hoping you guys are joking. Yes its just a finger but how am I going to pull in the clutch with my hand and finger in a cast. Yes I am going to miss riding the possible 8 weeks its going to take heal but I will be cursed if I am going to jeopardize doing more damage to it or risk my workman's comp because I tried to ride. Some of you guys may be able to be off work for two months without pay but I cant. So if it takes being off the bike for a couple of months so be it. I'm not happy about it, but that's life sometimes. So I will see some of you in Spearfish in 3 weeks, in a car but I will still be there........

Cheers, Mark I have a electric solenoid on my fuel line. Besides I am going to have my brother ride her once in awhile. Thanks for the well wishes. I also play guitar. Although not that much these days but I wont be able to do that either. I just hopes it heals very well so I can continue to play when I want to..

Mark, I can almost feel it as you talk about fracture manipulations.....been there, not fun, don't want no more Push for the shortest time in cast.....the longer in the cast the harder the rehab on the hand. You will be seeing an occupational therapist and become familiar with hand therapy.....Shouldn't be too bad if the casts is only on 3 or 4 weeks

I hafta admit that I was a little ticked off by some responses on this thread. Yeah, it's just a finger, a minor inconvenience for most, but for Mark it's more. The "Get Over it" does nor reflect well on the old axiom about "Walking a mile in his moccasins"

I really didn't see anything offensive in the posts. Yes, they were in humor, but then humor does always carry a bit of the truth, doesn't it? If it were my comments that offended anyone I'd say someone needs to grow some skin. As for walking in those moccasins, I've certainly been there more than once. I know Mark would be riding if he could and we did assume that in today's modern medicine a pin would be used rather than a cast. Those in the know will see clearly we jumped to the wrong conclusion. Isn't it interesting how seldom the doctors seem to do what I expect? We'll be pleased to see Mark and Twila. I hope the pain of recovery is minimal.

It is too bad that we can't remove a post, I did regret it after I posted above. Sorry, guys. I guess that what I was trying to say is that it depends on the injury and how it affects YOUR work. For instance, when I was an Xray tech, i became allergic to the silver salts in developing xray film. A simple case of contact dermatitis but not good in my case. Or, how about hiccups when you're a TV newscaster.

It is too bad that we can't remove a post, I did regret it after I posted above. Sorry, guys. Wayne, you should be able to remove your own posts unless they are the anchor posts of threads that have been replied to. I believe that's how we have it set. I can't check how well that works as I can easily remove anyone's post.

Mark Wayne-At times we ARE somewhat coarse in our attempts at humor. Never meant to upset anyone and PRAY it was taken as intended-humor. Heal up fast Mark. I can NOT imagine being off the Phatt Ghurl THAT long. I DO know something though-Mark-the wind WIL welcome you back when yer healed. RIDE SAFE.
