Pretty powerful statement on the current status of our police officers.

I WAS A POLICE OFFICER

Today, I will not answer the radio call that your boyfriend has come home drunk and is beating you again.

Today, I will not answer the radio call that your 16 year old daughter, who is very responsible, is four hours late coming home from school.

Today, I will not answer the radio call that your store has been robbed or your house has been burglarized.

Today, I will not stop a drunk driver from killing someone. I will not catch a rapist or a murderer or a car thief.

Today, I will not answer the radio call that a man has a gun or tried to abduct a child or that someone has been stabbed or has been in a terrible accident.

Today, I will not save your child that you locked in a car or the child you were too busy to watch who went outside and fell into the swimming pool, but that I revived.

No, today I will not do that.

Why?

Today, I was suspended from duty for doing my job, because the media, liberals, a community organizer, a lawyer who formally represented terrorists and a mayor who ran on an anti-police agenda, who are all advised by a drug dealer, liar and income tax cheat. AND, all who know nothing about policing, have vilified my profession.

Because…

Today, I was killed by a drunk driver while I was helping push a disabled car off the highway.

Today, I was shot and killed during a routine traffic stop to simply tell someone that they had a taillight out.

Today, I was killed in a traffic accident rushing to help a citizen.

Today, I was shot and killed serving a warrant on a known drug dealer.

Today, I was killed by a man when I came by to do a welfare check because his family was too busy.

Today, I was killed trying to stop a bank robbery or a grocery store robbery.

Today I was killed doing my job.

A chaplain and an officer will go to a house and tell a mom and dad or a wife or husband or a child that their son or daughter or husband or wife or father or mother won't be coming home today.

The flags at many police stations were flown at half-mast today but most people won't know why.

There will be a funeral and my fellow officers will come, a twenty-one-gun salute will be given, and taps and bagpipes will be played as I am laid to rest.

My name will be put on a plaque, on a wall, in a building, in a city somewhere.

A folded flag will be placed on a mantel or a bookcase in a home somewhere and a family will mourn.

There will be no cries for justice.

There will be no riots in the streets.

There will be no officers marching, screaming 'no justice, no peace.'

No citizens will scream that something must be done.

No windows will be smashed, no cars burned, no stones thrown, no names called.

Only someone crying themselves to sleep tonight will be the only sign that I was cared about.

I was a police officer

My youngest son is in the academy right now.  He has 4 more weeks of school, then
3 months of on the job training, a month on each shift.  He will be an officer in Niles, Illinois.

My family is very proud of him and of course are concerned for his safety.

Being a cop is a thankless job but thank God there are brave men and women that
gladly except the job and the challenges that go with it.

My son is an officer with the Gilbert AZ PD and my son in law is an officer with the Paradise Valley AZ PD. People that complain about officers need to walk a mile in their shoes dealing with the derespectful segment of society. Then maybe they would have a little empathy for what these guys go through. Contrary to what the media would have you believe not all officers are bad. I'm quite proud of both the officers in my family and I know for a fact they are very professional in their jobs.

I did 28 years at that job and retired as a road sgt.  People are quick to criticize and slow to reconize what we do (or did). I loved my job and the community I worked in. Most officers can look at  themselves in the mirror every day and be proud of what they do. There are a lot of officers in the job that would die for any one of us if necessary. You only hear about the "BAD" ones and what they do. You never hear about the "GOOD" and what they do every day.
There are 5 of us in my family that do or did the job, I was the first. My mother was a secretary for the detective bureau, My oldest brother retired a detective Sgt. and my youngest brother is chief of police here where I live. My youngest brothers son just finished the academy and got hired by Grand Rapids P.D.
IF there were no officers you couldn't walk the streets anywhere. I know there are a bunch of people that hate officers and I feel bad for them. I really don't know who those people call when they or one of their family are in trouble. Guess a drug addict would work.
Funny thing. I get called for jury duty and they don't let me stay.   Roll Eyes   I never have considered myself better than anyone else just did the job I was trained to do.
For you guys that have family in the profession, tell em you love them every time you get the chance. They may not come home some day!!!

My 2nd F I L was a local L E O in Lamar Co. At that time he was the Senior Sargent on that force. Thru him I got to know most of he local L E Os and a few of the Colorado Highway Patrol. Just because of my job-over the road trucking-I've met and broken bread with troopers and local L E Os in most States at one time or another. While they may seem aloof at times they are called upon to deal with the most horendus atrocities inflicted on human bodies do to vehicle wrecks. They also spend a lot of time with the dregs of a modern society. Having driven an Ambulance I have memories that will never leave no matter how hard I try too get them to leave. I M H O-thy are paid NOT near enough for what they deal with n a day to day basis. Used to go to church with a Sargent accident investigator from the Missouri Highway Patrol. As well as he and I got along he REFUSED to discuss his work-even In the broadest of terms. And I RESPECT him for that. My L E O  I L used to say-hours and hours of pure boredom broken up at times by a few seconds of sheer terror.  police RIDE SAFE.
