Does anyone know if there's a hotel right on the airport? I can find a couple less than a mile away, right on the property would be estra convenient.

John , Look up booking.com to get airport info . Many in or near with shuttle service.  I like Holiday I Express.

I got a room at a Best Western less than a mile north of the a/p, about a 3 minute ride via shuttle. The darn taxes and fees almost make up a quarter of the base rate. Ridiculous....Florida is no better.

Unlike many airports, General Mitchell does not have accommodations on the grounds. You are about as close as you can get unless you want to bunk in the abandoned Air Force Reserve quonset huts across the runway from the commercial terminal. Anywhere there is a hotel, there is a hotel tax these days.

Lodging tax and car rental tax are the easiest taxes in the world to pass since the locals typically don't have to pay them. Stick it to the traveler. They are ridiculously high everywhere. tickedoff
