June the 6th, 1944

D-Day. 

I had to work this afternoon, but before I went in, I checked all of the news channels and.....nothing.  Not a word. 

Checked my local paper.  Not a word. 

The only mention of the significance of today was in the funny pages of my local paper in the Peanuts cartoon with Snoopy. 

Kinda sad I thought.

I noticed the same thing. No mention anywhere. WTH !!!!

Sadly, it was the same here in the UK.

Although recently 50 small boats that was part of the troop evacuation in 1940 did sail across the English Channel again.

Awhile back "Shifty" Powers, a real time trusted sniper of the 101st Airborne died on the same day that Micheal Jackson died. Nothing in the news about him but Jackson got a big play.

How soon we forget except for entertainers.

A very shallow society.

I remember,,dammit!

     My Dad was in the Pacific, but my Uncle was a tail gunner
 in a B-17 on D-day running bombing missions to stop the Germans
from bringing up troops.
      Sad to hear how it has been forgotten.

I know, I mentioned that to my wife. How soon society forgets, or maybe even care? Kinda like December 7th 1941. Never hardly a mention on or around that date and few people even know what happened on that day either   ! IF you should ask they younger generation about that date alone they just say "I have no idea or give you a blank stare". Specifically, the generation of today and even older have no idea about much of any of the past wars or what took place. Are these kids even being taught? This stuff is important, at least I think it is. I bet if there was an active draft they would be keeping track.
