Subject: Test Your News IQ

Fun!

This is a terrific test.
And it shows results in a number of ways.
It surely indicates that a large number of Americans don't know what's going on.
It's astonishing that so many people got less than half right. The results say that 80% of the (voting) public doesn't have a clue, and that's pretty scary.
There are no tricks here -- just a simple test to see if you are current on your information.
This is quite a good quiz and the results are somewhat shocking.
Test your knowledge with the challenge of 12 questions, then be ready to shudder when you see how others did:
Click here: Test Your News IQ - Pew Research Center
Please pass it on!

It's cute but it's not an IQ test.

The IQ has no relationship to how much one follows the public "news".

I got nine of twelve.  I must admit that I guessed on several I got correct.   Wink

I didn't bother. I figured it would require Fox News indoctrination.  Willow is right ,IQ has nothing to do with knowledge.  Particularily if the knowledge source is highly suspect.

Yep, questions like how many women on the Supreme Court.  Things only Fox News followers could know.  Or where the Pope is from.  Or where Gentanimo Bay is.  Or what country we are in the process of recognizing.  Things only conservative news covers.

Would not expect MSNBC followers to have a clue.   2funny 2funny 2funny

10 of 12 here.  I said one female Supreme Court Justice.  Apparently, there are 3.  I thought the Pope was from Italy... didn't know he was from Puru (or whatever was blacked out there.)  Guessed on the pipeline and got it right but made most sense.  Answered correct on unemployment rate, (but think our current govt is fudging that)
It says I did better than 63% of the survey.  However, like has been said... it's not an IQ test.  It's more like a current events survey.

I don't see your issue.  Many of the questions are something any lib should know.  I didn't detect any political agenda in the questions that would cause suspect of any source.

12 of 12 right. Not sure what the issue is with Fox News, they have some beautiful women on there. Plus, you usually will hear BOTH sides of an issue, something you won't experience from Rachael Madcow or others on their channel. As for the test, it could have been answered easily by just watching your local news or reading the paper.

Some just feel the need to complain.  And, yep, I'm a member of that group sometimes.
I think it was titled appropriately, it clearly mentioned the news and how intelligent people were about it. Anyway, it got the attention of some enough to take the time to try the test. If there is an issue, complain to PEW.
I still take IQ and Mensa tests, and, to me, they are still about knowledge. Apparently some of us have different definitions. Isn't thought and problem solving all about knowledge of some kind. Doesn't experience impart knowledge and knowledge impart experience. Intelligence means something different to many people.
Also, whats the issue with Fox. Thats the only news I watch anymore, but, has nothing to do with this test. I watch Fox because the girls there are easy on the eyes and actually know what they are talking on both/all sides of an issue. I guess some just don't want to hear more than one side of any issue.  Smiley

I'm just in the mood today for 'discussion'.   Smiley

Talk about jumping to conclusions without any knowledge of the subject.  Facts are facts, at least to most people they are.
However, from what knowledge I have I disagree with the unemployment figure. But reason and experience would lead one to believe the government figure would be used as the correct answer whether it is right or wrong.
Not trying argumentative in any of these responses, just saying.

10 of 12. I missed the Pope and number of female Supreme Court Justices.
I could think of Sonia Sotomayor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I totally forgot about Elena Kagan.
I really blew the Pope question. Looking closer I'd say number 3 (the one I selected) is Spain. Just to show you how far behind the times I am, I was thinking of Pope Benedict XVI and at a quick glance, I just assumed that the country listed as 3 was Germany.

It is too an IQ test. It's one of those trans-subject test that can be whatever it wants to be. We should be supporting it's decision to be an IQ test. Clearly the test identifies with IQ tests.

I thought reasoning had just as much to do with answering some of these questions as anything.  But, so do many other things in life.  Of the 3 things that make up IQ, thats one of them. Like I said before, some folks just feel the need to be contrary and I understand that cuz I can be like that too.

Yeah, well too bad im not democrat then huh?   Grin my post was sarcastic ( we really need a scarcaatic font). But I really am too busy to worry about other countries and even what asshat will be running for president. My vote will go to the guy who loves guns and the 2nd amendment. As long as wehabe our guns we will be free. As soon as that is taken away you better run for the hills.

...

Technically, the definition of intelligence indicates that it is not about knowledge, but about capacity, that is the ability to absorb and process.  One can indeed increase knowledge over time and even develop increased intellectual skills, but intelligence, capacity, is unfortunately what one is born with.  An IQ test is an attempt to quantify, to rate, that innate characteristic.  I will give you that many people incorrectly use the term to describe the application of that capacity and that there are many naturally intelligent people who have not properly applied what they have and appear to be not very smart.  What one knows about any subject; world news, politics, celebrities, or the number of any particular sort of people in the world; is not a direct indicator of one's intelligence, his IQ.

It's cute but it's not an IQ test.

The IQ has no relationship to how much one follows the public "news".

Maybe I do need to learn to read as maybe I mistakenly [ can't spell inappropriately] used test instead of quiz. Thats an interesting point I'll ponder. But, isn't a quiz nothing but a short test and this one was short.   Smiley
