Depends on what you are planning.  An Interstate seat is one piece with a wider section for the passenger compared to the passenger seat on a standard or tourer.  You can mount the seat from an Interstate on a standard or tourer by taking off the rear bracket that sticks out from the back of the seat.

An Interstate seat is shorter than a regular seat because of the larger gas tank on the Interstate.  You can mount a standard seat on an Interstate but the front will be a tight fit because of the larger tank.
As was mentioned, talk to the Russell people as to what you have in mind.

To your question: Yes, that's what they did mine with (front only). I bought an old Std seat from BigMac, had it loaded it up and took it up north with us on our 3 Volcanoes Ride. After the ride I stopped in for all their needed measurements, etc. I reiterated that the nose would need some attention. I'd just stuck with the Ultimate rear passenger seat since mine is usually for cargo only. They fixed me up.

As mentioned, chat it up with them either way, especially if you are looking into backrest options.

I ended up getting a used Utopia BR to use on mine.

Thanks Gary. That's what I was hoping. I want to have one made for my I/S but I only have the 4 piece ultimate for it. And don't want it tore up for that. I like the 2 seat setup over the 1 piece stock I/S. How do you like yours ?

Looks like you got your questions answered, Meathead. I just saw this post but didn't know the answer anyway. When I went to order my Day-Long seat, I didn't want to give up my stock I/S seat/pan so I bought a used seat off the Internet for 45 bucks..I sent them that one instead so now I have my Russell and my original stock seat. I did send them my original passenger backrest, which is now recovered with the Russell leather.

Yup, understood. I now have a rider UBB in the closet with only a coupla-few thousand miles on it..  Undecided

It was definitely an improvement. However, I suffer from no-ass syndrome and also now own an AirHawk cushion and brand new, yet-to-be-used, sheepskin cover from "Alaska" Leather.

Side note: they also have different vinyl designs/textures so if you're going vinyl, check out the options to make sure it'll play well or blend with the others.

Just to set the record straight, the Interstate and Standard fuel tanks are the same length.  The extra amount of the Interstate is achieved by shape and a sharper up angle at the rear.

Russel only uses the base.  A Standard saddle will be fine.

By the way, I run a Standard saddle (not Russell) on my Interstate.  It fits fine.

I used a Std '97 seat pan when I had my Russell made.  I had it on a Standard until I sold the bike and purchased an Interstate.  I now use that seat on my Interstate.  It works fine.

I won't ride on any other seat and I've tried them all.  Russell is the way to go for me.

Thanks, got off the phone with them this morning. Have a ride in appt. with them for the end of Sept. I'm either going to use my OEM 01 Standard seats or buy some. Seems a shame to cut up a good I/S Ultimate set. I can't wait, I've wanted a Russell for years and I'm finally doing it. I'm going with the sunbrella inserts . Anybody here done that ? I'm tired of "fried vinyl ass"  Smiley
