With the "you owe me" and PC attitude of a similar aged generation today, the following will never happen again. I can only hope the need never arises.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

During the 3-1/2 years of World War 2 that started with the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor in December 1941and ended with the Surrender of Germany and Japan in 1945, "We the People of the U.S.A."  produced the following:
22 aircraft carriers,
8 battleships,
48 cruisers,
349 destroyers,
420 destroyer escorts,
203 submarines,
34 million tons of merchant ships,
100,000 fighter aircraft,
98,000 bombers,
24,000 transport aircraft,
58,000 training aircraft,
93,000 tanks,
257,000 artillery pieces,
105,000 mortars,
3,000,000 machine guns, and
2,500,000 military trucks.
We put 16.1 million men in uniform in the various armed services, invaded Africa, invaded Sicily and Italy, won the battle for the Atlantic, planned and executed D-Day, marched across the Pacific and Europe, developed the atomic bomb, and ultimately conquered Japan and Germany.

It's worth noting, that during the almost exact amount of time, the Obama Administration couldn't even build a web site that worked.

John, I agree! This is the reason the North won the Civil War, America won WWI and II. I don't think that would be true today as well as the "intestinal fortitude" to wage a war on a scale like these. With what's going on in the Ukraine, we might just find out!

I do not think war will ever be fought like those again.  It will either be a massive, nuclear conflagration.  Or, it will be like what we have now; a long, drawn out, terrorist action.

I would like to think that if something did happen where the country would need to unite against a common foe, such as like in the WW's, that we would.

Honestly, I disagree but, a whole lot of attitudes would need to be changed.

We won't know until there's a sufficient threat to overwhelm us.   I do have my doubts about certain generations but, those same generations have not faced the destruction of everything they hold dear.  Love of country has been forgotten by many.    It's more about love of me that seems to be paramount now.    But, right after 9/11/01, we came together.    Didn't last long but, we can do it again.    We just need a uniting event.    Won't be fun though.

I worked in a General Electric defense plant while going through high school.

Second shift, four hours each night and 8 on Saturday while going full time to high school.  Special permission.  .77 cents an hour with no demand for more.

That will NEVER happen again. Just think: child exploitation, forced to work for war,  discrimination against students, teaching them the wrong things, war mongoring capitalists, slave labor, Etc.

Even had Democrat presidents during that time. One of them, Truman, even said "The Buck stops Here"  A catchy phrase.   Never, never, never happen again.

Yes, it will happen again.  But, this time it will be in Japan.
