Indiana has the loosest laws regarding fireworks of any state. Lots of extra days, hours until 11pm and midnight and even loose hours and days around Memorial day.
My youth was spent wih roman candles. Zebras, lady fingers, sparklers, etc and people were considerate about late night fireworks. Not any more.
The local paper said one person bought 1200 bucks worth of fireworks and homes are now putting on their own fireworks display.
So why am i bitching? Fireworks are beautiful and interesting. yeah right?
Unfortunately . people are not. " F*** you, "I'll shoot off my carload of fireworks when and how long I please, If you can't sleep because of my high in the sky loud mortars, tough!" It's too hard for cops to find the law breakers.
The mortars are the worse. Midnight comes and goes (the deadline) but the arseholes keep it up.
I especially do not understand that the law allows midnight shooting of fireworks on Memorial Day. This is the time for remembering our dead.
I guess that I'm an old fuddy duddy that would stop Memorial day fireworks completely. Most fireworks are made in China, and they killed most of our guys in the Korean war.
Oh well, the way things are going, maybe they'll outlaw Independence Day too. after all, We killed many British. Probably won't stop he fireworks tho.

Wayne, my sympathies are with you but it occurs to me you may not be fully aware of all Hell either losing or winning. It is going to be noisy. Grit your teeth and it'll be over in a few days. I don't personally like to ignite fireworks any later than twenty-two or possibly twenty-two thirty.

Carl, when I said loose, I mean loose. Indiana law allows the residents to go to it July 1-3, the 4th, AND July 5-9. The only difference is that it stops at two hours after sunset, except on July 4th.(midnight) nine total days and some have plenty of money to spend. Sunset roughly at 9 something.
Can't have any left over because of rain.
No problem except I have quite a time normally getting to sleep.

In my present home situation, there is a lot of 'sound' during the night, which would certainly keep me awake all night. (she snores a bit)
I've learned to wear earplugs while I sleep. Took a few weeks to get used to, but it's been three years and I'm getting better sleep. They would certainly keep the sounds of fireworks reduced, so one could sleep.

Every year on the 4th the guy a couple of doors down would set off fireworks not late but alot. Mortars, roman candles, fireworks and all kinds of stuff. Well one year I painted my roof and had my truck just painted and of course the fireworks were pointed over my way. Well the end caps and debris fell on my truck, my roof and in my yard. He then proceeds to leave a mess in the street one door down that was some of the remains of the fireworks. Well when he was done I went out examine my truck and the house and yard saw the mess in the street and went over to have a talk with him. Well by the time we ended our discussion he was cleaning the street and the yards with my blower and putting things in the garbage. Nice to have such friendly neighbors Funny he never left a mess again and never had fireworks that pointed my way or when he had parties no one would park in front of my house. How nice, all it took was communication

Hell they have been shooting them in my neighborhood for a bit over a week already. Saturday me and a buddy will be shooting a ton of them but we do clean our mess up the next day and only one neighbor has a problem with it.

at 0300 this morning someone in neighborhood set off 3 rather loud BANGS. Not sure of the name of the fireworks. Of course they didn't just set them off all at once, about 10 minutes apart.
For the record, fireworks are not suppose to be fired up till tomorrow morning and stopping at midnight. AND they are not to include any that go up into the air. Major Drought going on. LEO's will be busy, cause a lot don't pay any attention to the regs.

Why would they say none that go up in the air? The ground is what is dry and will catch fire :uglystupid2:never seen one come back to the ground on fire.

Am heading down to Anna Maria Island, where my sister and I inherited and own a condo right on the beach together. Will be leaving in a couple hours. On that beach the uber wealthy home owners (not us!) put on their own fireworks displays almost to the point of being a competition up and down the beach. We can see the Holmes beach city fireworks to the South of us and for the next two hours or so your neck gets a better work out than it will the rest of the year watching fireworks up and down the beach. The fireworks are amazing, all shot out over the water and huge! Can sit there with a big ol' rum and coke and cigar and enjoy. Here's to hoping each and every one of us has a safe 4th of July! Enjoy it.

Had a relative (Step of an inlaw of a step kinda thing, luckily no longer related) that was a high ranking official with the IRS, and lived in West Virginia. Evidently fireworks were heavily illegal in their area, but they liked to put on their own show, so they'd drive down to the Carolinas ever year and spend several grand on fireworks. To avoid LEO issues they had a 2 pronged approach: #1. Invite the chief of police to the party. #2. They were high ranking officials with the IRS. NO ONE wanted to get on their bad side. The technique was highly successful. (And for what it's worth, he was done and over with well before midnight.) This was the opening salvo of one of the years we were there for their party:

By far the best public fireworks display that I saw was at Inzane in Paducah. I can't remember if it was IV or V. They set them off from a barge in the Ohio river and i had a great balcony seat outside of my room on the 3rd floor. Hot with high humidity but no mosquitoes.
How many remember it?
