2000 Valk I/S

Atlanta, GA

« on: July 04, 2015, 07:29:48 AM »

I have had my '00 I/s for about three years now and wanted to try something else. I bought an '02 K1200 LTE and rode that for a while but still missed the throttle performance of my Valk. And that baby is great for x-country riding. But for around town, not so much.  Went and bought an '06 Ultra, and while it does have some attributes I really like, I keep going back to my Valk when I want a great ride.

Don't ever let any Harley owner (I am one) tell you different....without major motor mods to the Harley my stock I/S will SMOKE my Ultra in practically every performance category I care about. Off the line, low-end torque, strong power band, roll-on power, throttle response, top-end speed and the most important category...Butt Dyno....there is simply no comparison.

If I could combine the fairing, dash and controls of the Ultra with the raw power and performance of my Valk I would have the perfect bike for me. So until that bike exists, I will have to continue to decide when I ride...do I want to SOUND fast or do I want to GO fast? And now I am seriously considering a set of Cobra Six-into-Six to increase the "here I come" factor....

Just my humble, yet experienced opinion.....

I too have had both I also liked the fairing on the HD better as the IS fairing is dated. But sold the HD and still have both my standard and IS valks coolsmiley the biggest two problems I had with the HD was#1 passenger room when riding two up the wife was up against me and I couldn't move around the way I can on the VALK where I hardly know she is back there.
#2 power as you stated without major $$$ upgrades it wouldn't pull a greasy string out of a cats arse Undecided

I like the Ultra a bit, too.  I've ridden one with a 103 and it was gutless.  My old Yamaha Road Star and the Vlak both put down 100 HP and 100 ft-lbs and a new 103 puts down 86 and 68!?!

You have to spend $40K on an Ultra with the Screamin Eagle 110 to get performance that we enjoy.  For that money, I'd rather have four or five Valks parked in my garage!

Have to agree. I've got a 2014 Ultra Classic and there's a lot to like about it, but I'm just not comfortable for anything over an hour ride. It has better power than the 2013 Road Glide I had, and I love the electric cruise, but I keep going back to my Valkyries instead. Both the Tourer and the Interstate are WAY more comfortable for all day rides and the power and smoothness of the Valk is just in another leaque from the HD.
Placed an ad on cycle trader this week to sell the Harley. Nice bike but it will probably be my last HD.
With two low mileage Valks in the garage, I will probably never need another bike. Even being retired now and riding more than before, I will never be able to wear these two out.
Keep smilin and riding what you love !

I have no problem setting the cruise at 85 and running that all day long,,,thats the speed i ran my wing at and all four of my valks at...I didnt buy the HD to outrun the Valk..as far as comfort goes well i had to make all kinds of mods to be comfortable on the Valk all day, not so the Harley..and I have always said, if you put a 1500 wing engine on a harley frame that would be the perfect ride for me..
