Hey all, I guess my ears were burning hearing all this talk on here. Sorry I haven't posted till now but yes, I did pick up a brand new 2013 Black F6b Standard this past Saturday from a dealer in South Milwaukee. It had just come out of it's crate on Thursday and had 2 miles on it. I currently have about 380 on it. Dealer wanted 13,999 but I was able to get it for 13,500.

First impressions... This bike is very smooth and has quite a bid of power and handles beautifully!  First thing I've done is buy Liquid Gold and I've got three coats on her. Hopefully, I can build up a hard shell and keep the paint looking good. Cleaning time is waaaay less than doing all the nooks and crannies on the old I/S.

Coming from a guy who never had his first two Interstates in a dealership for service cept for one tire change in Utah...I'm LOST on this F6b as far as where things are hidden. Until about 2 hours ago, I didn't even know where to check the oil-everything is not so obvious because of all the Tupperware.

The short gunslinger windshield is so far a love/hate relationship. It's the first time I've ever had a bike that gives you a good wind blast and I kinda like the feel of it. However, trying to listen to the stock radio is a lesson in futility over 50mph. The wind hits right from the chin level on up.

One of my first purchases will probably be about a 15 inch shield with a vent in the middle.

It's not a great pic but this was taken after picking up the bike and getting it back to our lakehouse in Wisc on Saturday.

Congrats again. cooldude I bought a Shop manual for the bike. Gives you the ins and outs. A tip, go to a Harbor Freight and buy one of the Nylon Pry Bar Installers kits. They're cheap, and can be a valuable tool for lessening the anxiety if you have to dig into the Tupperware. coolsmiley I've had a lot of it removed installing the audio equipment.

I've got the Baggershield convertable windshield on mine and really like it. Without the upper clear section, I get some breeze, I look over the shield and hear the tunes fine (even before the stereo upgrades). With the clear portion added to the top of the shield, I look through it, but the added wind protection is nice when it gets chilly or the wife is in board. There are quite a few options out there for windshields. One of the more popular ones is the Madstad . Google it. It is adjustable and is reported to work very well.

Get rid of that worthless stock windshield, the Honda optional tall shield with vent works great for me. Then you will hear that radio at 80 +  Grin

Thanks, guys for the congrats and the suggestions. Jimmytee, I happen to have a Harbor Freight about 8 miles from me in Aurora, IL. Guess I'll have to make a short jaunt on the bike and pick up a set of those prybars. Thanks for the suggestion!  And I saw of video of how that Baggershield worked...the best of both worlds. I like the fact that it can be set depending on the desired effect.

Dave, there are lots of windshield choices for sure. I might end up with that tall Honda with vent, but will check out some of the others also.

Highway pegs are also going to be one of the first add ons. The "praying mantis" position only works so long for me. Seems the one's that attach to the valve cover are a popular choice as our the Ergo II and Ergo III choices.

Thinking of doing my first oil change at 500-1000 miles just to get any metal out of it from wearing in the rings, etc. I know my wife's Subaru Forester came from the factory with synthetic oil in it. Don't want to turn this into an oil thread, but did any of you switch over that early or should I wait a couple thou.

And lastly, I sadly took the revolving sig pic down. That bike served me well since it replaced I/S #1 in 09.

Thanks,
Russ

there used to be a breakin period on new vehicles concerning easy riding and oil for the first 500 miles or so, not so any more, run the oil you want and ride it like you stoled it,,

Thanks, Jess....that's what I was figuring. Machine tolerances are so tight nowadays.  I fix machines every day...big behometh suckers about 25 feet tall that can position down to a micron. I think wearing the rings to the cylinder wall is the most critical aspect of breaking in a motor...and that probably happens in the first 50-100 miles.

Yes, the Honda brand stuff. I figure as long as it is under warranty I will use their oil just so there are never any issues or loopholes for Honda if something breaks.

One of my first purchases will probably be about a 15 inch shield with a vent in the middle.

Take the vent apart and put a piece of screen wire over the hole and then replace the cover.

My old Gold Wing had one, I was following my riding buddy in Canada on a trip.    We hit some fresh asphalt, of course a piece of hot asphalt came through the open hole and stuck to my upper lip.

That is the reason I wear a mustache.    It stuck and burned me a nice big scar on my lip.

Covered the hole with a piece of screen door screen.  Worked great.

My mechanic has always gone by the 500 rule. Don't lug it and don't run the hell out of it until 500 miles is gone. Then change the oil into what you want and ride it like you want to. Never a problem on any new bikes I've had. I never paid for first service either! I did what  had to be done and documented it. Dealership said that was just fine. I wasn't (never have) paying $300.00+ dollars for an oil change.

Me either. First oil change was free and subsequent ones $65 with Honda Full Syn. I can live with that while it's under warranty.
