2012-2014 Ford Focus radio upgrade

I have a 2013 Ford Focus Hatchback SE with the regular Sync, not the Touch Sync. I want to up grade my radio, I am leaning towards a Kenwood, but I want to retain the Sync and the auto communications ability. I know there are some interface out there that goes between the radio and the Focus communications. iDataLink is one, that states it supports Sync, but users state it don't work in a Focus with Sync. If you have a 2012-2014 Focus (I assume these years Focus have the same harness) did you do the upgrade, did you do it yourself, or out source it, and of so what interface did you use and do you have all the options the car can offer?
