I found this on the internet by chance.     The Ten Commandments of Motorcycling.

1). LOVE AND HONOR YOUR MOTORCYCLE
I’m not talking about whispering sweet nothings to your bike or inserting your member to the pipe but treating it the way it should. Follow owner’s manual religiously, and clean the beloved yourself. This way you get to examine your unit and monitor it closely.
2). RESPECT THE ROAD YE LAY YOUR PATH ON
The street is not a racetrack; you shall ride like a hooligan but not a serial killer. The road is for all to respect.
3). MAKE SURE YOUR PAPERS ARE IN ORDER
Lest you want to be shamed. Regularly update your license and registration. Do not fall prey to demons doing dirty deeds.
4). YE SHALL BE A GENTLEMAN AT ALL TIMES
You may be EDSA’s mop but you must feel clean to look clean. You must not act like an asshole but treat people the way you want to be treated. Not a gentleman just to hookers but to all.
5). BE AN ACTIVE PARTICIPANT OF THE WORLD THAT SURROUNDS YOU
Abide by the rules and be a human being. Attend meets and conventions that actually do something. Remember, it’s not the model of your bike that you’ll remember on your deathbed but the good times you’ve had with it.
6). YE SHALL RIDE AND LIVE LIKE A BIKER
Not just to Starbucks but every road there is rain or shine. Ride for work at times and not only on weekends. Being a poseur is the worst sin of all.
7). YE SHALL BE AN INTELLIGENT RIDER
Not just an educated road user but a brainy bohemian. Learn the art of conversation and not gutter talk. Expose yourself to fine reading material and different mediums of entertainment and not tabloids nor Internet junk and worst of all — UHF. This way you’ll have time well spent and not just bitching about like a girl.
Cool. YE SHALL NOT USE YOUR ‘CYCLE FOR EVIL INTENT
You ride to give yourself joy and nothing else.
9). YE SHALL LOVE LIFE
Love your life. Always wear protective gear. Visit long lost relatives and friends. The bike is a means of getting away from it all but you actually get closer.
10). YE SHALL RIDE FOREVER
Not just to say you were a rider but living by the code.

Bet we could add some more......I'll go first.

11)  Thall shall not spit tobacco into the wind.....
12)

#6 doesn't seem to match the rest.  Well.... in what I would call a "biker."  Maybe it should be replaced with "motorcyclist."

Take a moment at the start of each ride to give thanks that the previous ride was not your last and that you have the privilege of feeling the wind one more time.  Ride just a little harder and a little further in honor of those who have gone before.

Ride Safe,

Almost all of them.  They're like "safety commandments."  I want a god that gives me "fun commandments."

I'm sure a lot of folks have their own set of rules (Ten Commandments?  I don't think so.).  That's just the way some of us are made.

I read through the list and there was no small number with which I either disagreed or found not that important.  It's a good idea to exchange information and maybe rules with wise folks that have experience in what we are either starting out in or don't have as much experience in.

My personal assessment is that the person who made up that original post list of rules really hasn't done a whole lot of riding.   Smiley

LOL!  With.  No one should ride on his valve stems.  I have a few spares if anyone needs a couple.  Not many because my list of friends is dwindling.   Wink

Title of thread intrigued me - 10 commandments....  I agree, a lot of "biker" cliches in there. Some great suggestions in response though :-)

First I heard of the OEM valve stems "commandment" was at this year's (my first) Inzane....pardon what might seem like a silly question to many of you from this uninformed Canuck - I assume this has to do with my losing of tire pressure for the last 16 years??? I guess I've never had any "friends" up here to look after me in that regard ;-)

It's unlikely OEM stems would be responsible for your losing tire pressure gradually over that long.  That's more likely due to failed sealing at the wheel (at the bead).

OEM stems pass through the wheel with rubber and no metal.  They're recommended to be replaced with each tire change at about $11 each.  The danger is that if you press unreasonably during inflation and let the 90 degree stem out of that plastic support you could tear or weaken that rubber portion passing through the wheel resulting in a rather rapid deflation possibly while you're rolling down the road.  The replacements that are metal passing through the wheel costs about $2 - $3 each and will last many years and a lot of tire changes.  When they do give way they will result in a very slow deflation something like the one you've described.

For every person or vehicle you see. Think of the stupidest thing they can do and plan for it. 9 out of 10 times you'll need that plan.

Ride like everyone is out to kill you. They really are!

You are right.   I don't drink and ride my motorcycle.    I don't drink and drive my car.   I don't drink and drive anything.   I like a couple beers at the house after a hot day outside mowing the lawn.....all due to a very bad family experience with alchohol and driving.   However, probably 90 percent of the people on this sight will have a beer or margarita with a meal while out on a ride on their bike.  Nothing wrong with that, I don't do it, but most will.
