DS-0009 ...... # 173

Des Moines, IA

« on: August 03, 2015, 06:21:35 PM »

Got this from my Cousin's wife who lives in Rapid City, SD.

He drives shuttle for the Chevy garage in town, said a rider from New Mexico rear ended him about noon today.    Van was empty except for my cousin the driver.       Bike rider got a couple of bent forks on his Harley.   Other wise no problem in the hurt area.

Now now for the bad news.

As of tonight, there have been six biker fatalities, compared to 0 last year at this time.  Yikes.    Diane.

They got a week to go yet.    Damn.......

Six fatalities is a typical number for the end of the week.  Another reason I'm glad I skipped it this year.  But I'm thinking about several riding friends that are out there...

I had some SERIOUS fun in June at I-15. I can't fathom the levels of stoopid that MIGHT be attained with all dem dere "riders" in attendance!  Lips Sealed Just here in my little corner of the Ozarks saw a LOT of M/Cs on trailers.  Shocked WHAT ZACKLY might the skill level be if the M/C is trailered? AND my favorite question-what happens to "skill" levels when impaired by too cursed much alcohol and/or drugs?? RIDE SAFE.

I can't imagine dealing with an estimated 1,000,000+ riders -- not only the road traffic but at gas stations, motels, restaurants and everywhere else.  Seems like a cluster muck of such epic proportion would take the fun out of of the equation, especially since some leave their better judgment at home.

I doubt they'll get anywhere close to a million.  The number 75 might draw a few extra, but double recent attendance?  I'll be surprised if they get 700,000.

I was going to go this year until I remembered the anniversary. I will wait till next year if the creek don't rise? Next years crowd should be considerably less? I think that this is just the beginning in the injury / fatality category. Wait till the real drinkin and ridin begin.

RJ...How'd ya like to work this thing? IF I had to, I would want the night shift. I used to work 4p - 4A and loved it. Bar fights and all the crazies were out on my shift, and the shift just flew by. Then there was the paperwork. I was always glad I took typing in high school. Guys huntin and peckin doing a B&E report and it took em 2 - 3 hours. Mine were done in half hour 45 minutes even if it was well involved. Some officers offered to pay me to do their reports just so they could go home. Not a chance, that was where I was headed.

Must be all those riders who didn't get the two dozen or so recalled fixed on those awesome so well built and engineered Harleys.

I do not doubt the attendance estimates.  I talked to the head guy for the Spearfish Ambulance Service when I was at Inzane, and he was spouting the same numbers.  I have also talked to riders over the last two years that have postponed doing out there till this year.  The five year anniversaries have always drawn more riders.  I was there for the 70th and noticed it personally...

According to the stats they peaked out the year Wizzard and I were out there.  Maybe we should've gone this year to see if we could draw in some numbers again.    Wink
