  I am in my second marriage and have a wife and partner that I thought would never  be possible.
When I was working she always encouraged me to try to do as much as I could. Keep learning.

  My wish was to own a Henry Rifle. I have wanted one for as long as I can remember. The ex got rid of an antique shot gun without my knowledge (a long time ago). I looked at catalogs and found a dealer near by. We went to look and I showed her the first one I wanted to get. The second one was because of cost. She said to get it and paid for it. It is a Henry Golden Boy with the long barrel.
 The first choice is the A-7 survival rifle. I will order it on Wednesday. This is not the only reason I love her. She also wants the A7 so she can shoot with me.

Ross, that is a great testimony to the partner you have.   I experienced much the same thoughts and feelings over 20 yrs. ago but this fine lady was placed in my life to make my life complete and she's done just that.

Prez - I too can identify with you! The gal I am with now loves to fish, loves to ride her own motorcycle, loves guns and also wants to own a Henry in addition to what she already owns, enjoys boats and the antique outboards that I enjoy......what could be any better than that!

Congrats on two incredible items. The gun and a wife that obviously loves you. Hope you appreciate both equally. I used to have a uberti .357 caliber with octagonal barrel before that cursed boating accident. Loved that one.

I had been lusting after a Henry as well.  Especially after handling my friend Ron's 30-30.  But I wanted one with more punch.  Besides I already have a Ruger .44mag autoloader carbine.  (Didn't go down with the boat).  AND I need to build up my gun safe again since all the assault rifles and other Brady Bunch guns are gone.

So I got this.  Henry .45-70.  Muzzle energy a bit more than most .30-06 loads.  Kicks like a mule!  Historical, this is Henry's replica of their 1873 Henry. This caliber was the primary one (along with the .45-110) used for buffalo, in black powder - a bit less powerful than this.  I'm getting a mite over 2000fps with a 325gr .45 cal load.  This round will take everything in North America - and has also taken ALL of the African dangerous game.  Wouldn't be my choice, but with the proper loads it can be done.

I've set it up with a Marble Arms tang sight.  ala Matthew Quigley (sort of - his was a Shiloh Sharps 1874 falling-block single shot from Big Timber, MT in .45-110-540 with  vernier / Globe sights, dbl-set trigger and 34" barrel).  Even so it's a blast to shoot.  Literally.  I need to get a well-padded jacket.  Bruised my shoulder pretty good and I had it pulled in TIGHT.  Held my eye 2" from the peep and good thing it folds- hits me in the eyebrow every time!  I'm getting 4" groups at 96 yards with iron sights, benchrest.  Not too bad, for a stock trigger.  Ballistics tables recommend zero at 160 yds for point-blank aim on deer-size game to 220 yds.  BTW their specs say it holds 4+1 but it's actually 5+1.  Might be good not to store it loaded with 5 up the tube.  I'm not using it for home defense anyway.  OMG, shoot a 2-legged critter with this and I think you'd cut him in half and the round would go through the next 3 rooms and be a hazard for the neighbors.

fishing,  shooting, riding Valk, and woopie with the wifey, not necessarily in that order, doesn't get any better than that.   

It is nice to know that we, with the wife's support and sometimes extra funds, can purchase our items we so much desire.  The key is to NOT complain when she buys 5 purses or 10 pairs of shoes on a whim.     Sort of like just this Sunday just yesterday,  the wife saw 50% of on a 100 dollar purse she wanted and I asked her why she needed another purse.  She said she wanted another color and bigger as well and told me you can take me 73 miles one way on the Valk to go get it.  DONE deal,  146 miles later and she got her purse on the Valk while I got a good deal on a new pair of tennis shoes I so desperately need as well.

Oh man.  Gun and wife stories.  I too have an awesome wife.  Not only did she encourage me to buy my dream revolver (the S&W 500) she has no problem with other fun guns.  In fact I bought her a Varner Favorite .22 for her last birthday.  She also had no problem with the Valkyrie being parked in the family room. Here's the rest of the story...the new Valkyrie is on the carpeted part of the family room right next to the red and white.

I am a lucky guy, as my wife too loves revolvers. I have a few but when she went to shooting class and became an expert marksman with my revolvers, I quit buying life insurance.

So, you used something not intended to be a gun lubricant, it didn't work well but you recommend it?  I don't want to start a new oil battle but there are many quality products available to preserve your firearms.  WD 40 is not one of them

 Good deal Ross. I have a 44 mag Henry Golden Big Boy. Love it. Beautiful rifle. Shoots fantastic. Last month I bought a Henry 22 Silver Boy off of my dad. The wood on both guns is fantastic. Love the look.

 I too have a great wife. She loves to ride on the Valk. She likes to go shooting with me as well. We went out to the range last week. She wants to get her permit to carry but she wants to get proficient before she applies for it.

agree,  gun oil is readily available in a cleaning kit or all on it's own pretty cheap, not much needed on a clean small cloth.   After 20 years or so, still on my first bottle of gun oil and gun solvent.

I have always used a light rub of good quality gun oil on all firearms.

Recently I read about this and got some and have tried it out and it is really some some nice stuff.  Lightly applied and buffed off, it about stops fingerprints in their tracks (which oil doesn't).  Especially marvelous on blue steel and wood stocks.  It has no solvent or cleaning agent, so you must do a good cleaning first, then use the wax.  Spendy, but a little goes a long way.

Remington gun oil in the spray can. Douche em till they're drippin.
Henrys are so smoothe ya gotta put an "E" on the end of smooth.
Big bags of dessicant in the safe and tell Tom not to stand up in the canoe next time.

anything is better than nothing,, i have never had any of my guns rust up before by using wd-40, only this one Henry, try spraying some on a piece of metal or a nail and set it on the shelf beside one that is not coated and you will see that wd-40 does in fact work,, now as a gun lubricant, maybe not so good but as a rust protector i thought it would do the trick since it has worked for me for years (50+)..

I just googled is wd-40 good for my guns,,and I just went to school,, now thanks to you i have 14 rifles and 27 handguns i need to get cleand and all oiled up,,,that is provided the boat is still afloat,,
