As most of you know I have been a member of this club for a long time (over 15 years). I have seen members come and go. Some by death,RIP. Others just moved on to another bike and so on. I love the fact there is no cost for membership to this great club.  I have been to most of the 15 Inzanes. So I have contributed to this club both financially and most of the time positively to the board.

I saw this morning the yet another thread was deleted. Not locked. Deleted. I apologize if my posts on said thread were cause for it's demise. One member of this club continues to degrade, belittle and make fun of almost everyone here. He continues to post his vile, degrading and hurt filled diatribe without fail. He has never been to a Inzane. So he has never contributed financially. I can only remember one time that he contributed in a positive way. My question is. Why is he still here?

I don't know the answers to your questions. But if he really bothers you that much, why not just ignore him ?

That's exactly what I did months ago. But last night I violated that rule. Someone like that who lives for nothing more than to spread derision is not worth my time nor effort.

I call for a petition to have Daddy O removed from this club. I too have ignored him over a year ago and also violated my own ignore.  He has never added anything good or positive to the general discussion of anything. So he needs to be removed.

Don't know about a petition. I'm all for someone being free to speak their mind. But by the same token I don't have to listen to it or read it. I do know that the record speaks for itself. More often than not, when he participates in a thread the eventual result is that thread being locked or deleted.

And here I thought you guys were talking about me !   Smiley

I see where one post was locked, I didn't think it was that bad, but, that was probably a good thing as it may have progressed into something.

What post was deleted ? I'll have to look and see if I can remember.

The way I see it, it is called LIFE!  Like they suggest if it bothers you, don't go there. This is America, if you start silencing people that annoy you, what do we end up with. Everyone has different opinions, and if some finds this place to vent in a positive way, then so be it. I can't be sensitive every time someone pushes my buttons.

FWIW, I thought the thread was in poor taste. I don't think I posted anything on it, because I didn't want it to become nasty. I know my posts are not always welcome, coming from a different side than most of the frequent posters on this board. Having said that, if someone adds nothing but hate and discontent, why allow them to pollute the site?

I'm a new to me Valk owner, and love all the information available here. I hope in the future to be able to join in some of these rides and meet some of you.

I didn't see the thread.Bob nothing wrong with having difference in opinion that makes the world go 'round. But some just come here to degrade and belittle others. Have I posted something that I shouldn't have, sure have. But don't come here for that purpose.

Last I heard, most jokes are targeted at a specific person, thing, etc etc. There are always going to be those that, for whatever reason, find it offensive or in poor taste. But to purposely spread derision and label others for a simple joke, well, GTF over it. Just like dreamaker said.....it's LIFE. My dad always told me if you cannot laugh at yourself, then you have no business laughing at anyone else.

Thats not true at all. There was a time that he posted about riding and working on bikes with some of his fellow NorCal riders. I think he let some get under his skin and it became mostly political then. There are some here that I've disagreed with vehemently but I would NEVER think of petitioning to have them removed. Even if I'd been a member for 80 years. It's amusing that some who have the highest disregard for Daddie O have posted crap that was vile and negative themselves. Like I said earlier if he hurts your sensabilities that bad just don't pay attention .

That wasn't my point. Whether you thought the joke was funny or inappropriate was not the point. His first comment was calling the poster a BIGOT.  Some of the following jokes in the thread I found in bad taste but I didn't come back and call the poster a bigot, did I ? Every time this guy posts it's to degrade and belittle members that don't agree with him. We don't need such a "toxic" person on here..

Mark, take a chill pill Brother.   While I try to explain.

By you commenting on his post you have made his day.

He is not actually worth the time to type a comment.

He posts, he sets back and waits to see who will comment.

If he gets someone to comment in a derogatory way, that has made his day big time.

Anymore, I just pass over his posts so that I don't get drug into his little lair.

I just figure he was a bully in school.

Reminds me of one time I ran home from school crying.   Ran in the yard and Dad hollered at me.    Between tears I said what.

Dad asked me what was wrong, told him I got run home from school.

Dad asked who I though could whip my arse the worst, him or me.

I said YOU, he then told me I better get out at the gate and take care of business.    Never had a problem with that happening again.

That was one of the things I remember that Dad told me, RIP & thanks Dad.    Wish I knew where your grave was at so I could visit it once in awhile, even if it was in Iwo Jima.    Semper fi Pop.

You know, I am mostly Polish, with a Polish last name, and if you remember there was book written called Polish Joke Handbook, and Polish jokes was a hot thing at that time.  Some of the jokes were real trash and some were good funny jokes.  When people would tell me the trashy one, I did  not get mad, I just thought what a sad, pitiful person.  They didn’t tell them to pick a fight; they were thinking they were funny, and they were too stupid to understand that they were belittling Polish people. Thing is are we bikers or a gossip circle.

Well, it's not my party so, I don't get to make the rules.   But, I'm definitely not in agreement with a petition to throw someone overboard.

If I didn't think my opinions were welcomed here, I wouldn't post them.   I wouldn't come to a party that I knew would end up in turmoil and I definitely wouldn't insult the other folks at the party.

IOWs, we're a large and diverse community, we all should watch our Ps and Qs when we're out and about in this internet world.    I try to be the same person here I would be in person.    Some won't like me, some would enjoy my presence.    If I didn't feel welcome, I wouldn't come back, Valkyrie or no Valkyrie.

Having said that, I won't ask anyone to do anything but play nice.    There will always be disagreements, we're human but when we start getting personal and indiscrimanently calling each other names, it's time for the moderators to step in and shut the thread down.

Jokes are always at someone's expense, eventually there will be a funny joke that targets fat old guys like me.    Though, I haven't seen, read or heard it yet.   Wink   We're not a very funny group but, we are very good looking for the most part.   There are exceptions to that though.   You know who you are.    Wink

if there is any fault to the thread being deleted it probably lies w/ me.

I went on a bit of a fuming rant in my response and wrote something i'm not entirely proud of but in my own defense I had just read another article regarding IS and the timing was just a perfect storm of raging anger and frustration.

As I wrote a couple weeks ago I like it here, I enjoy the banter, but yesterday I let my fingers do the talking, not my common sense.

BTW re: the original joke...if you go back through time it can apply to almost every nationality in a specific period of our history.

The rules are written at the top of the General Board

All of us have been guilty of engaging the mouth (or typing with fingers)
before really engaging our brains to think things through

I have said it before, there is a PM feature.

Before anyone  resorts to name calling.........  send the poster a PM to state why
what he or she said pisses you off.  It gives the OP the chance to remove the offensive part of the thread

I have done so and count many here friends because of it

When we were kids we simply got into fistfights. Later you probably became
friends with the other kid   I know some of my worst (or best depending on how I did)
 fights resulted in some
of my longest lasting friendships, including my own brother

Just food for thought

I can remember a few on this board that are no longer around, Vmax for instance.   There always will be a few agitators on this board at any one time.   Most will leave if they are ignored.  In the case of Vmax I believe that he was banned by the staff because he was 'way over the top.

After all these years, I am tempted to get on my "white horse' occasionally but it really is a waste of time dealing with trolls, and I hafta remind myself.

Let the staff figure it out.

That's a shame.  I read between the snide comments and was enjoying jokes... ALL of them.  Even though I'm catholic, I can see the humor in a Jesus joke just as well as any other joke.

The shameful part isn't the deletion (I understand forum owners need to keep things civilized).  The shameful part is how easily a silly joke can make things turn so ugly so quickly because someone has been trained to be insulted over such trivial things.

RJ's story about his dad and how he handled a bully reminded me of a similar situation when I was a youngster. When I was a HS sophomore, I was constantly harassed by a big fat jerk named Gary, who also threatened to take me apart some day. I mentioned that all Gary did was talk, most of the time it was stupid comments of no value, but always based on self-aggrandizement. A blow hard! (sound familiar?) I told dad that one day, I'll get fed up and beat the dummy to a pulp. Dad's simple answer....."a waste of your time because after you do that, even the pulp will come up talking."

Turned out my dad was right. Gary confronted me after school one day, soon as he could talk a few days later(he missed a week of school  Wink) he proved my dad's wisdom.  Smiley

Admittedly I've also taken the bait and lashed out on more than one occasion.  The only way to minimize such emotional responses would be to ban the powder keg subjects like religion and politics completely and even then there would still be those who would find something to be offended about.  The staff has decided not to go that route, I think wisely.  This is one of the most lively and fun motorcycle boards on the web!  I've made a conscious effort to ease up on political posts and replies but there will be always flash points due to the nature of politics.

That said, the Valkyrie rules, and the VRCC rocks!

I delete the thread.  If anyone has a problem with that he has a problem with me, not any participant in the thread.

Following is from the "Rules of the Road" (They're posted at the top of the board.)

Harassing, offensive, vulgar, abusive, hateful or bashing comments; and similar pictures or links, especially those aimed at sexual orientation, gender, race, color, religious views, national origin or disability — are not allowed and will be deleted.

Oftimes there are posts which I believe violate the rules.  If I don't get a complaint( Reported Post email ) I generally leave them alone.  I got a few complaints on this one.

It's easy for us to get to feeling uppity about folks who post in hostile manner when we disagree with what those people are posting.  It's too easy for us to let it slide when the subject of the post is something with which we agree.  Perhaps some of the mean spirited posting is because folks get sick and tired of having hostile, belittling posts representing the side they oppose.  We sometimes for some reason seem to think it's okay to be an asshole if we're within a group that agrees with what we're being an asshole about.  Honestly, it's almost never okay to be a rectal orifice even when responding to one who has chosen to be a rectal orifice.

It's a good group of people in this club.  We have a handful of folks who feel it's just alright for them to be offensive because they are obviously correct, at least in their own minds.  It's not alright and it does nothing to change any opposing minds.  It only serves to bang their own drums and make them look good in front of people who already agree with them.  They tend to be little minds and not big people.

I'm done.  There are only a few people who take the time to attempt to moderate this board.  I will tell you the truth.  Sometimes it tends to piss those people off.

Discuss it over supper and then rethink your feelings.

OK, thanks. Noticed it was gone after I posted, surprised I remembered that !

The thread did turn bad and I don't blame Willow for deleting it. But, it was a joke and was taken as such by most of us. I thought it was funny.
I guess there are some that just should be ignored, maybe I'm one of them [ I have a tendency to get wound up at times]..

As for DaddieO I thought he was funny as in a little kid temper tantrum funny. He stated he didn't care, he stated he was out for blood, he had issues in the past with people and yet he came back. I was kind of happy to see him back sorry it boiled down to what it did.

The other name that was a new member and purposefully insulting was this also him?

I guess why would anyone take him seriously after that he said the purpose of his posts?

Hey maybe hes a Muslim and didn't like the joke?

I am only sorry that the veneer of civility and caring that he paraded around was not genuine for those with a difference in opinion. It speaks volumes about a person, their ideals and true self. I like DaddieO but he has much to learn, maybe he is the one going postal would really apply to.

I delete the thread.  If anyone has a problem with that he has a problem with me, not any participant in the thread.

Carl,

Biker Girl and I in no way envy you in your role as moderator of this Board...

In our opinion, no one could do this difficult job better.

Thanks for what you do here, and for ALL your contributions to the VRCC.

There have been folks on here that have been banned, then came back only to be banned again.  Then came back under a different handle only to be banned yet again.

As caustic as Strong Eagle and Anvil were, Daddieo pushes bottons stronger than they did....and they really tried hard to piss off people here.

Daddieo, IMO, posts the most pot stirring, vile, hate filled toxic and caustic posts of anyone that I can remember reading on this board.

Thinking back to the people that have been banned in the past and the reasons for their dismissal, I don't think asking that Daddieo being banned is all that unreasonable.

Big Al was recently let go so to speak....and I still don't really know what he did to get himself banned the last time.

Daddieo seems to only post for no other reason than to just piss off people.

And for the record...I thought the book store joke pretty funny.  cooldude

Not even close to true, BF.

There have been people who claimed they were banned and then came back.  There have been people who left on their own (banned themselves?) and then came back.

Actually, now that I think about it there was one member who was actually banned and then tried to re-enter.  The ban was enforced as soon as we recognized him.  There was one who left in a huff and then reregistered.  He ultimately was actually banned when he began to threaten board members.

There have been members who are active now that have been discussed among the staff.  The practice of the staff has been to only execute a ban under unanimous agreement.  I think that's a good policy.

Once more let me emphasize that the thread originally the subject of this discussion was in violation of the Rules of the Road from the original post.

There are a fair amount of world religions and people groups that I am not particularly fond of or that I believe don't logically make sense.  Our rules prohibit my posting of jokes about those groups or ridiculing by means of pictures and cartoons.  I've learned to be okay with that.  Well, at least I've learned to live with that.

It is good to know that the practice of the staff is only to execute as torture would be a bit over the top. crazy2
But seriously,

Folks, never lose sight of the reality that this is just an internet board. You only need take from it what YOU wish. Got somebody being a knuckle head? Ignore them. Can't ignore them? Send them an email or private message. They are just looking for people to take them on publicly. Don't give them the satisfaction. That is the best way to deal with folks like this. But just simply ignore them. They and their opinions are not worth your time.

For what it's worth, I was the Chairman of the Board of Directors (National) for an organization for 4 years with 62,000 members, and have been on the Board for 15 years.  I visit our forum almost daily.  When I see a forum member that never adds anything positive, but just continually ridicules other forum members, I ask our forum moderators to ban him/her from the forum. This has happened maybe a dozen times or so, some people are just a**holes, and they need to be removed from the conversation.

D O is entitled to his thoughts-whether we as members agree with them or not. To some of us that IS a tough pill to choke down BUT the obuminater is STILL potus and the other jerk wads that follow potus's lead are still in charge. SEE-iffin ya look there ARE worse things than some people on this board of ours.  Roll Eyes I skim his posts or ignore them entirely-as I did towards the end of the now deleted joke thread.  2funny I KNEW it was a joke and I still laughed-course to those of you who have met me KNOW I are a half bubble off plumb anywho!  Lips Sealed And-YES Mark-I duz understand the point you are making BUT on the other hand banning the guy is NOT very correct in the here and now-ignore him entirely my friend. Enjoy supper with your Dad and your lovely lady.  cooldude Tell Twila I said howdy. RIDE SAFE.

"It's easy for us to get to feeling uppity about folks who post in hostile manner when we disagree with what those people are posting. Honestly, it's almost never okay to be a rectal orifice even when responding to one who has chosen to be a rectal orifice."

Willow shows wisdom in his post.  I obviously enjoy posting here, otherwise I wouldn't do it.  Religion and politics do not usually make for polite conversation.  When I first started posting here, I was surprised that religion and politics were being discussed on a forum that was supposed to be dedicated to discussing a motorcycle we all love.  When I, and many before and after me have suggested that the VRCC forum might not be the best place to discuss subjects that are off topic, we have been roundly criticized and shut down.  It was explained to me that the majority here enjoy coming here to discuss religion and politics.  So, I have engaged in the discussion.  The issue is that my views of religion and politics differ from the majority here.  For many of those who claim to want to discuss religion and politics, what they are really looking for is people to agree with their views on those subjects.  I'm not sure if you realize it or not, but there are many people, even some on this site, that agree with my positions.  I get private messages from members thanking me for saying things that they felt should be said, but they had been discouraged from saying because of the sheer volume of hate and belittling that they receive from forum members when they do so.

I see many posts here belittling, insulting, and degrading those who are of a different race, political party, or religion than the majority of posters on this forum.  Many of the those insults are thinly disguised as "jokes".  Since I feel immune to the insults and belittling, I do not feel discouraged to say things that I (and others) feel should be said.  Of course no one likes being called a bigot or a racist.  The price I pay for pointing out bigotry and racism here?  I have been called a much larger assortment of names, have been belittled, and even have some calling for me to be banned from the site.

In a country that was founded on the principles of freedom of speech and religious freedom, I find it ironic that "jokes" are being made suggesting all members of a certain religion should "shut the eff up, get the eff out, and stay the eff out".  I find it hypocritical that those who think I should be banned for calling members racists or bigots are the same people that call me a wide variety of names.
