Hello all, I had to post this just in case anyone was ever feeling like they were missing out on something.  I bought my black standard Valkyrie 18 years ago in 1997.  It had 3 miles on it and was the first bike that I ever purchased.  It was $11,900.00 well spent.  Over the years I have added honda touring bags, a honda windshield, corbin seats, and every piece of chrome known to man for this wonderful machine.  As my wife and I have been raising our three boys that are now teenagers I have not had as much time to ride as I would like.  Now they are getting older and my time is starting to free up again.  My buddies on the job ride Harleys and have been baiting me to buy one.  Over the past weekend I went to the HD open house in York, Pa to tour the plant and ride the bikes.  My thought was to ride the biggest and best bike on the lot so I test rode the 2016 Ultra Limited.  After a 20 minute ride on this "$28,000.00 flagship" bike I could not wait to get back to my 18 year old Valkyrie.  The power, smoothness and handleing that our bikes have are light-years ahead of its time.  Yes, I have a renewed appreciation for our bikes and almost feel bad that I ever doubted her.  I have fallen back in love with the Honda Valkyrie and why........because I rode a HD!!!

Wow, while I was reading your thread, the music channel on TV had Barbra Streisand singing "the way we were"!  What timing!  Made me want to go look at my Valk!

cooldude  It's the best cruiser on the road!

Were they offering free Kool-Aid when they were talking up that $28,000 flagship?   uglystupid2

We stumbled on the Valk by Googling " best cruiser ever made" its actually our first bike, we feel lucky to have a Phat Gal in the garage.

There is no comparison, Harley's are not a bad bike but just not the great engine and riding characteristics of the Valk.

I've mentioned this before. I never fallen out of love with it.
I said back during the Japanese invasion that I would never own a Jap bike.  Back in I think '97 while in Lake Placid a herd of Wings went 'swishing' past so I paid no attention, that is, until this black and chrome crazy looking thing went past bringing up the rear.
I ran away from the others we were with and started running after this thing, and, I'm not built for running any more.  I arrived huffing and puffing at the muni parking lot just prior to having a major coronary to see all those folks walking away. I just started drooling all over this monster and then noticed Honda Valkyrie and made in America plastered on it.
I made up my mind right then to own one by spring and to never say never again. I think this monster will be pasted down thru the family and I will come back to haunt anyone that sells it.

the bike you claim is 28 grand msrp is pretty close the same as the gold wimg

https://powersports.honda.com/2015/gold-wing/build.aspx

if you click on the honda with navi xm and abs you will find out it cost more than the harley..

I have no doubt you are correct but, we're not talking about a Gold Wing.
Needless to say, an 18 year old Valkyrie cruiser should not be competition a new HD or GW.   But, for most of us, it sets the mark.

a $28k wing is a helluva lot better bike than a harley if you are looking for reliablilty and longevity... no comparision....
