Didn't know the Gerbing family were no longer the owners of Gerbing Heated Gear.

Here is their restart...

http://gordonsheated.com/index.html

Scroll down the page to read about Mr. Gerbing.

A change in the controller design as well.

Interesting story.

Well, it is getting to be almost time for gearing up for cooler weather.   Always wished I had some heated gear but never had the extra bucks just laying around.   I guess if it was all that big of a deal I would have gotten some.    Rode last winter when it was -1 F, though it was cool, made it just fine to work and home.    I guess I should think about getting some of this heated gear.  Well, maybe some day.    Would have to wire the  bike to power it and, I'm just not sure I want to do that.   Undecided   Do they have summer sales, might think about  it then.   Or, maybe not.............

I herd some of this from the motor patrolman that bought my
street glide. He did add that the gear is still of good quality .
I have to agree with him, as I just got a pair of gloves and liner for
 my jacket.
If some here have them remember there was a family run
business that sold boots for ridding and they were and still are some of the
best I have ever owed. Think they were called Cruiser or something like that.
I was lucky enough to go with some of the officers when they were getting
their gear and got their discount.
Hope the quality stays , also the one change I saw was no longer
 life time coverage for defects.

You hook two wires to the battery and its ready... Heated gear is some of the best money I've ever spent.

It's Gerbing Heated Gear that no longer honors their lifetime guarantee. They won't repair or replace electrical defects anymore.
I went round & round with them over a bad controller & still ended up with a half azz spliced repair that got Sugar slightly burned one night when she had to wear my jacket. (I'll never do business with them again!)
Please help support the original Gordon Gerbing at the link above!
Quality gear from an honorable family run business with a true lifetime gaurantee.

"The wiring on all heated clothing sold by Gordon's will be serviced for the life of the garment. Unfortunately we cannot service clothing sold by other manufacturers, including the original Gerbing's Heated Clothing, a company of which we have absolutely no connection. The good news is that the 3rd generation of the Gerbing family is here at Gordon's, so we plan to be around for a long time honoring our warranties from our new company."

That's good enough for me!

Not hardly good enough for me. Can you not see how your loyalty is such an irony?

I have quite a bit of the "lifetime" guaranteed old company stuff. I guess that "lifetime" is over. Per your post Gordon's word seems to be as good as his next dollar...Yeah I'm looking forward to giving them more money for the next worthless "lifetime" guaranty.

I'm not saying my "old" gear is not good but I am saying I probably won't send his new company a penny ever. If your company sales pitch is a lifetime guarantee and I'm not dead nor is he then his word is just a useless sales pitch.

Edit: Just visited the link for the new stuff. They don't even list the wattage of the products just state ours is the warmest??? Huh? I guess facts are not needed to sell a name.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see my lifetime being the same as the lifetime of any garment.
I don't' wear the same clothes I wore in school, and I don't expect my new Gordod's wear to last til I die.
Damn, I hope I last longer, come to think of it.
BTW, the state of Ohio defines  a product  "lifetime guarantee" as being for 7 years, not a persons lifetime.  Granted, many companies go way beyond that, but there is a defined limit.

Not quite related, but I had a Tourmaster heated jacket that went bad the second season I had it. It just stopped heating altogether. I called the company, and explained the problem. They told me if I mailed it to them, they would fix it or give me a new one. About 4 or 5 weeks later, a brand new jacket came in the mail. My son is looking for a jacket this season. Guess who I told him to buy from?

Well crap, poop, bugger,  bum.

Just ordered a new liner and gloves yesterday and they are already shipped.

Didn't know about the disappearance of Gerbing.

Guess it's all old stock being sold as Gerbing?

Gerbing Heated Gear is not gone, just not owned by the Gerbing family anymore.    Gerbing (located in NC now) is still in operation.

I have never used Gerbing stuff, but, I bought a jacket liner from a company called Warm and Safe. I like it a lot, and it was considerably less expensive than Gerbing I have no idea about the difference in quality, but, mine works well, and I could afford the thing cooldude

I bought my Gerbing gear because of the warranty and that for me, they were semi-local (WA). Paid almost double for it too, expecting that I would be using it for a very long time.

Was pissed when I found out they sold the company and that the warranty was no longer being honored.

I don't blame the Gerbing family for that, and may even buy from the new company Gordon in the future. But most likely will buy something else, not pay the extra money to just find out that the warranty is being dropped again.

I bought my Gerbings at the factory in NC.

It was old stock left over from when the MFG was in China (the new owners moved production back to the USA).

I bought it at a 75% discount.

They told me that the lifetime warranty would not be in effect but that if anything went wrong with it that I could bring it back to the factory and it would be repaired at cost.

I have found them to be very customer friendly.

If you are having issues with any Gerbing branded gear, I would suggest giving them a call direct.

They should at least offer the repair at cost option.

I can't remember for sure what the guy told me, but I think he said it would be about $50 to completely rewire a jacket.

They still seem to be providing a lifetime warranty on the micro-wire, even honoring the warranties for the micro-wire from the old company.

Huuuuum. Thanks for posting. Had Gerbin jackets for yrs but don't use them much but think their great. The controller is I assume just a rheostat and and a rheostat is bound to fail at some point but a good electronic head should be able to fix, note all mouth here.

Got my new liner today.

The dimensions of the jacket across the chest have shrunk. No I'm not making a joke.

My old 3xl liner was 61 inches for the chest. This new one is 56.

This new one has a connector that is so short I will have to dig for it under the hem of my 3/4 winter jacket.

Looks like they are cutting corners.

Oh well I'll use it for the FCR and see how it fares.

Rheostats have been out of favor for a few decades now. "Transistor" control cuts the power off at variable rates to control heat.
