Sunday afternoon after church the wife was gone to a baby shower so I went for a short ride. On my way back I was about 2 miles from home and a deer jumped from the road bank above me and to my right, hit the bike in the front fender hard enough that I couldn't hold it. The bike went out from under me and I hit the asphalt. I am ok, "chipped" elbow and a lot of rash. Bike is likely totaled, just makes me sad because I had the "look" just like I wanted it to be.
I understand the whole thing could have been much worse but I am still sad cause I really liked that bike!

And there are many Valks out there available. Take the hard to find parts off to put on your next one before the insurance gets ahold of it.

That does suck ! My bikes are like a dear friend. I can only imagine how you feel. But at least you are ok. There are more bikes out there, but only one of you.

Sorry to hear about your accident. IF your bike is totaled by the insurance company, DON'T necessarily settle for the first offer.
Secondly, I'm sorry to say pulling all your parts off the bike isn't necessarily the best idea. I've been through two total outs. I just received settlement on a 99 Interstate with 83k miles and got about 13,8 for a settlement...and can prove it to any doubters.
The key is having good coverage on your aftermarket parts on your insurance policy. I got paid 5 grand JUST for my aftermarket add ons. That didn't include the rare and hard to find items that I did pull off my bike and sold. I got about 1100 for those. In some cases, providing documentation and getting reimbursed dollar for dollar(no depreciation) is the best way to go for the bling.
Good Luck,

Sorry that happened but glad you're ok. Don't count your Valk out just yet. You'd be surprised how much of a hit these bikes can take.

It's a combination of both. For what is still available, use the insurance add-on clause/rider and let the parts go and get full price(if still comparable to replacement cost). For what is unobtainable, I pulled(while telling the adjuster I was going to) and didn't turn those parts in under the clause. I then sold them separately. Some of that stuff was in my classifieds For Sale Post.

Whoa ! You did good. It's nice to hear of someone not getting raped by an insurance company. This is kind of a personal question but I'm curious how much your insurance costs you. I've been a cheap bastard my whole life. I don't think I've ever even had full coverage on one of my bikes. I would be devastated if I totaled one out.

After having American Family for years and seeing my rates go up and up to the tune of about 460 for my latest quote about a year ago, I switched to Progressive last fall and was paying about 260 for full coverage. That included my 5000 accessories rider. What's strange to me is that hitting a deer was considered comp and shouldn't have raised my rates. When I was quoted on my F6b, I learned my insurance for the upcoming year was going to be over 500. I asked why and was told because the F6b is a bigger bike. I said, "Really? About 300cc bigger makes my rates go up that much?" Needless to say, I'll be shopping around again. I have till next month to compare and choose.

Man, I guess I've got to get off my butt and shop around. I think I pay $250 for 2 bikes with just liability. I would gladly pay your rates. Thanks for the info Wiggy. How you liking the F6B ? I never think to go over to the 1800 chapter.
