I am still in shock about RJ's death.  He had responded to this thread just a few hours before he died, in RJ's typical manner.  Little did I think it would be something I responded to after he had passed without knowing it.

But we still have Foster with us - and I'm sending Foster's card and prayers today in memory of RJ.

I saw Foster this evening it broke my heart his brother Brady claims he is so much better however Paul ( Wimp ) and I was expecting too much I guess. He cannot speak has to labor for every breath he was wires and hoses hooked all over his body. A very sad sight for such a strong man to be in this condition. His brother wanted to see where the crash happened so Paul and I took him to see where Foster went down. While at his room I saw the many e-cards that you folks have sent in fact his wife Ann had some of them taped to the wall and window. Again I ask you to keep Foster in your thoughts and prayers he is in bad shape and has a very long road to travel if he gets better. Pictures are from today where Foster crashed with Paul and Brady.... Over the last 6 weeks the family has been called to the hospital ( 4 ) times for what Brady called a death watch... If he's getting better I'm so glad I didn't see him before.

I'm sure that was hard to do, Joe.  It probably meant more to Foster and his family than you'll ever know.  Good on you.  I knew from your reports that it has been touch and go for Foster, sorry to hear it's still so cursed rough for him.  Six weeks and still not out of the woods, that's just brutal.  This man has a will of iron.  Prayers ongoing, cards too.

WOW!  Thanks for the update Joe and Wimp, and for you guys still doing what you do best, ride around and help people.

One of my biggest fears when out on a long, out of state trip, is going down and winding up in the hospital.  Six weeks is a long time to be down, so I hope and pray Foster begins to show rapid improvement.  A positive mental attitude will go a long way toward helping the improvement, keep the cards and prayers coming.  Get well soon, Foster.

One of my biggest fears when out on a long, out of state trip, is going down and winding up in the hospital.

This could happen to any of us.   That's why the "community" support is so important.

While I haven't been able to send an ecard every day, I have sent one encouraging Foster every day I had access to a computer.

Foster, keep on fighting and get the hell out of that hospital.   It's full of non-riders.  Wink

Joe you have done a real mitzvah again here and it probably
is also true that you are indeed a mensch

(which is not so bad )  We have a bunch of them in this family

Mensch (מענטש) a Yiddish word that means "a person of integrity." A mensch is someone who is responsible, has a sense of right and wrong and is the sort of person other people look up to. In English the word has come to mean "a good guy."

Sorry for the hijack but the man is doing good here

Joe, everyone knows when they throw a leg over that bike there is a chance they will get hurt or even killed. You put on some of the best rides I have ever been on and it would be a huge loss if you quit doing them. Everyone in this club looks at you as the "godfather" of valkyries, well in my opinion anyway. Just because these incidents happened on your ride dosent mean it couldn't have happened any other time. Don't beat yourself up too much, we all know you mean well and all have a great respect for you and what you do.

The fact that it bothers you shows you are a good man. We are all big boys. We know there is a danger in riding motorcycles. Flatlanders like me have to "Ride our ride" when in your neck of the woods. But it's our choice to ride. You have nothing to feel guilty about. Thanks for all you are doing with Foster.

Joe, I've ridden with you enough and shot the breeze enough with you to know immediately that this was going to be heavy on you but didn't want to bring it up at the time until I saw you again in person. Others have stated the truth that we all have and are aware of the accepted risk every time we climb aboard our ride. Just so you hear it loud and clear again, you have no responsibility here and are doing all you can to help a fellow rider because that's the kind of man you are. When my schedule allows again, I'd ride anywhere with you in any condition knowing I am responsible for the risk I am taking any time I ride but comforted in the fact I'm with someone that would be there for me as I would for them IF anything were to happen during the ride. Until our next ride man, hang in there and keep doing all you do  cooldude

Joe-No way shape or form his accident was your fault. I've ridden a LOT of miles with my brother and whoever leads and runs up on a situation the one in the lead is-damn I hope he sees this in time and can adjust. When we throw that leg over IT IS our CHOICE. The only one that can make the go/no go decision is the person with their hands on the controls. We all WANT to have a safe ride-sometimes-road conditions dumb ass cage drivers etc etc-take the "safe" option outa our hands. I've been on large rides-100+ M/Cs-and sometimes "stuff" JUST happens. On the other hand the FACT you do feel bad about this tells me a lot bout you Joe-I count you amongst my friends and would/will share wind with you ANYTIME!  cooldude RIDE SAFE.

I'm not real clear what is going on now however it seems to me the insurance company has raised its ugly head and they are kickin' Foster out of one of the top hospitals in the area and haulin' him somewhere else.... As I get more info I'll share ... I saw him Saturday and this man does not need this added trauma .... Keep Foster in your thoughts and prayers.

far as I know every hospital has a patient advocate department which includes the head honcho the hospital administrator

Hopefully Foster's wife is willing to be the squeaky wheel and get what she needs for her husband

Dont trust insurance companies

Card and prayers sent for Wednesday.

It's not uncommon to send folks to long term acute care hospitals once they are out of immediate danger but still needing a high level of medical care. Sometimes the hospital itself kicks you out if they determine you are going to require care for a long time but most of the time, it's the insurance company trying to save money. Kindred Hospital is one of those types where you get specialized care that is equivalent to what you would get in the traditional hospital, but no intensive care.  While the move itself will be unsettling, I am very hopeful that the care Foster receives will be good at the secondary location.  I just hope they have the email cards so we can keep up the encouraging messages.
