A friend of mine took his Valkyrie to the dealer for tires.  They talked him into brakes too (no comment). They tried to charge him $1,100.  They used to do tires (front and back) for $385

After a protest, they re-figured it and it was almost $800.

So, he rides away and its making noise in the front and the rear.  Holy crap, he takes it back and they "re-adjust" the rear and get the noise to stop but tell him the clicking on the left front is to be expected  because the bike has 35K miles so you know the rotors need replacing soon.

I'm so glad I found a dirt bike and 4wheeler shop that will do tires mounted and balanced for $20.

So $800 at the dealer with noises

Or

$500 for tires and brakes without custom noises.

Hey Jeff.

I just had tires put on a few months ago and it wasn't anywhere near that.  I had them put on at the Honda dealer in F'Dub.

Is that the same dealer you're talking about.

Btw....I just called there today to ask about something else.  Asked to talk to Jess but was told she's not there.  Not sure what that means.

Hope she hasn't gone anywhere.

Yep, the place on M.E. cuttoff. Honda, Yamaha Power sports.  Brand new mechanic that apparently Doesn't know Valkyries

My friend said it was like $250 for brakes.  That puts the tires over $500.

Dang, the clicking probably means his front axle wasn't installed correctly. He should get someone who knows what they are doing to look it over pretty quickly.

Sorry to hear that.

I'm pretty sure that's who I talked to today then.  Could easily tell that he wasnt the brightest bulb in the pack.

I hope nothing has happened to Jess.

Looks like I'll have go back to using Racetrack Powersports on Racetrack again whenever I need something.

I'd guess it's the brake clearance.  Missed the step of tightening only the left pinch bolts, then bouncing the forks before tightening the right.

There's no excuse. A good bike mechanic should be able to do brakes on all styles of bikes. They are idiots . As far as the cost, my son owns a triumph dealership in Socal.  WE were discussing the $15 min wage and the problem isn't the guy getting $8-9 per hour its the others in his shop that will want the same hourly increase when the bottom guy gets his raise. The one at the top will want another $5-6 per hour to stay ahead of the new guy at the bottom. Total cost will be passed on to the customers. Instead of charging $75-100 a shop hour it will go way up and that brake job will be$400 plus parts easy if not more.

I stopped in that dealer last week to pick up some parts I had ordered for a Valk project bike I'm working on.  I decided to change the coolant and asked for a gallon.  He dragged out 4 quarts of premix at $9.99 per quart.  I expect to pay higher prices across the counter but the idea of $40 for a coolant change just hit me wrong and I told him just to keep them.  His demeanor changed and he acted indignant that I wouldn't pay what he wanted.   I picked up a gallon of Peak concentrate and a gallon of distilled water from Walmart, total cost about $7-8.  If they're gonna screw me, they should at least be nice about it.
