Old Firefighter, retiring in January!!

It is a fantastic profession, and can be very rewarding ( not talking about money either). Congratulations to him and your family.

Surprised the friend has that lite beard, can't firefight with that!  Firefighter

I was thinking that too. Doesn't it interfere with the seal of a mask ?

Congrats to your son and the same to mom and pop.

I don't pretend to understand why anyone would want to rush into a burning house but, I'm glad there are folks who have the guts to do it.

My own son is a fire fighter/EMT working on his Para Medic Cert.    They are a special breed.   cooldude

Congrats and be safe in your career! I'm retired from "the job" for almost 5 years. I miss it so much. My bride of 35 years said she never saw me not want to go to work! She said many times she was jealous! One kind of funny thing I learned while I was a probie, a nice lady brought over a wonderful pie one morning. After we had dinner with a great dessert, I (as the probie) did the dishes and went to the Lt's. office to study.(no tv until after you made probation). Next morning I volunteered to take the dish back to the lady. As we left for the day, my Lt. said "You NEVER return a pie pan EMPTY." Go back to the kitchen and put a pie together! I did as I was ordered, not a very good pie, but it was a pie none the less.
I took it to the lady and was rewarded with a hug and a peck on the cheek! It's just a little tradition I learned... Hopefully someday when you're a Lt., You can share that little tradition with the probie you're training!

One other thing, Most Firefighters have heard of or have seen  this prayer, Maybe some of our group that are not in a firefighters family haven't. So here it is: A FIREMANS PRAYER

When I'm called to duty God, wherever flames may rage, give me strength to save some life whatever be it's age. Help me to embrace a little child  before it is too late or save an older person from the horror of that fate. Enable me to be alert to hear the weakest shout and quickly and efficiently to put the fire out. I want to fill my calling Lord and to give the best in me to guard my every neighbor and protect his property. And if according to my fate I am to lose my life, please bless with your protecting hand my childeren and my wife.
