Beautiful east Tennessee ( GOD'S Country )

« on: October 31, 2015, 03:14:18 PM »

We had 9 bikes show up this morning for the ride to The Big South Fork. These first pictures was taken at " High Bridge " the Gateway To The Big South Fork. I was hoping for more fall colors however even so it was a beautiful ride today in The Great State Of Tennessee.

The Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area preserves the Big South Fork of the Cumberland River and its tributaries in northeastern Tennessee and southeastern Kentucky. In addition, the former mining community of Blue Heron is preserved and interpreted via signage.

The Big South Fork region contains one of the highest concentrations of natural bridges in the eastern United States and the area is located in parts of Scott, Fentress, Pickett, and Morgan counties in Tennessee, and McCreary County in Kentucky

The Big South Fork's most prominent feature is the river gorge cutting through the softer Mississippian age rock beneath the hard Pennsylvanian capstone of the Cumberland Plateau. Water is the most influential agent of geologic change in the Big South Fork region. Over time water action has left many unique and amazing geologic features ranging from the river gorge with its magnificent bluffs to the natural arches and unusual hoodoos.

Big South Fork is 125,310 acres.

Looks like fun!

We stretched the rest of Carolyn's fence today, and put the horses in there for a while. They
loved it. Too much fresh green grass in there to leave them in there for long...

Good pictures Joe, I'm always jealous that you have all that great country to ride. Makes Indiana seem boring

cooldude to the ride report. I'm hoping to have an extra 5-6 days to get home from Inzane next June, as I want to take advantage of my probably one and only chance to visit Tennessee and North Carolina on the bike while I'm that close - two places I've wanted to see for decades. Been making notes of all ride reports from those areas  cooldude

That is beautiful country up there. We looked at homes in that area before buying in Vonore. My wife wants to trailer her horse up there and go riding.  Coming down I75 the distance between the northern entrance and southern entrance is like 30 miles so the "park" is huge.
