So much for survey’s

Generally when I get telemarketing call I hang up, but I was in the mood.  Now I am getting ready to start messing with this person, so they said it was a survey to help the school get funding.  So I kind of backed off, and agreed to take the survey.  They started asking me a few questions which I had some knowledge of and I answered.  Then the next batch or questions, in order to answer correctly I would have to be associated to the school, and know the peoples activity to answer accurately.  So at this point, I stopped the person and explained that I don’t have a close association with these persons and can’t answer that accurately. The person agreed, then continued asking questions, which I had no knowledge or answers for.  And again I explained that the questions they are asking, I have no association with or have any knowledge of , to give them a correct or accurate answer for their question. Finally I said, that they are asking me questions in general that needed person that have better knowledge of the school.  I felt like a Parrot!! I told them in the manner in which they are gathering their information; the information is not true or useful. Now we are going for about 15min. and I finally said “I got to go” they begged me not to go, I got the impression they got paid by the survey.  So in conclusion, I got the impression that when these people gather information, for surveys and statistics, it’s based on all crap, and not true and accurate info.

I think all survey results should be announced as, "According to the sample of 1273 bored or lonely people, if an election were held today, 34% of bored and lonely people would vote for..."

You have to remember that they write the questions in a manner that will support the conclusion that they have already reached.  Surveys are totally useless for gathering real, useful information.

Hell we don't even have an answering machine or home phone anymore. Well we do but it's just sitting there. It used to crack me up the different reaction my wife and I had about those things. Within a split second of me figuring out it was a poll, a politician, a salesman or anybody that I didn't want to talk to, I would say no thanks as I'm hanging up. My wife will listen to their whole spill because she doesn't want to hurt their feelings    . Then after she finally hung up bitch about them calling  .

I have two methods, the first, I have a blocker unit that they cannot hack, I bought it on EBay, best $39 I ever spent.  It stores up to 9999 black list (hangs up on blocked #) and 9999 white list the people you want to talk to comes through normally.  The second, on my phone recorder, I created an outgoing message that sounds like, I answered the phone, I asked the normal “Who is it”, then I asked them to hold on, so I can turn down the TV, I then pause a few seconds, then make a sound like I dropped the phone, with a little remark in the back ground, I sound like picked up the phone, then asked the again, “Who is it”, then I interrupt again and say ”By the way, this is a recording ……..” and so on. Man, they get pissed, when they realized they have been talking to a phone recorder.  They don’t like their own medicine.

Most of the time I just lay down the phone without hanging up, let them talk to the air.  Time is money to them, if you hang up they can go to the next call without wasting time.  The more calls they get in, the more they get paid.

That's so funny.  That's exactly how it is our home.  I answer and say "Hello" then hear nothing for 2 seconds, I hang right up.  Cheryl says hello 4 times, I tell her to hang up, but it's too late and they got her.  She has a puzzled look on her face throughout the call, I keep whispering for her to hang up and then finally she'll tell them she's not interested.

I used to work for a company that put on the surveys.

there was a quota for completed surveys, total number of calls.. etc. So yes... they do get paid byt the completed survey. If a survey is incomplete... doesn't count towards your total.
