This is to the people, that follow the things that goes on at Michigan State University. I caught just the butt end of an issue on the TV News. I looked for it on other channels, but I couldn't find anything. What is was about, was a grant for 18 million dollars to go to Nigeria, my concern was who was putting up the grant of 18 mill. I am interested in knowing some of the info.

Looks like we're the ones putting up the money (We = the federal government)

More levels of ridiculous bureaucracy being paid for the taxpayer.

Why can't the Fed Govt do this and keep MSU out of it?

It is. But it's also a nation of over 182 million people, not all of whom are scammers of course. The cause might be noble, however I still have a problem with us borrowing money from my grandchildren to pay for it.

Having said that, I'll take Britma's question as to why there's a middleman a step further - Why is a nation that's running a HUGE budget deficit with over $18,000,000,000,000 in debt spending more money we don't have?

Don't get me wrong, starvation is not something to be taken lightly or to be ignored, and if we were running a budget surplus and had no national debt that might be one thing, but we're not.

It's like the overly generous uncle that, although his house is being foreclosed on and he has massive credit card debt, he still keeps trying to help every panhandler he sees.

Noble, I'm sure, but not the wisest move.

I agree with Serk.   But I would also be more impressed if they were spending money on developing a improving/developing something on the ground.  It sounded like the money was to be spent developing better bureaucratic  system.

There are companies such as the one that makes lifestraw and other products that produce safe drinking water  They already have programs to get their products where needed

There are companies that make DIY solar kits so that kids can read and other small electrical off grid things can happen   Likewise there are private  & public means of getting them to 3rd world countries

I have no problem with  SMALL amounts for showing folks how to use these things
so that people can drink clean water etc

But I dont see where this kind of large grant helps anything  My guess is most of the money will go in some despot's pocket

Don't get wrong, at this point I am kind of shooting from the hip on this. I guess it has been known, and even documentary type movies made about it. Can't recall at this time, the names of them, but on the most part, suppose to be true. OK!!  Gov. and good will type of organizations have sent money and food and medical supplies, but the people never got them, their gov took the supplies and never gave it to their people. Now is this going to be the situation, where the people will never see the 18 mil. Hopefully I am wrong. Although they could have used that money to help our Vets, on in a fund to make collage more affordable to our serous students, or senior healthcare. Or am I just talking out of my mind.
