Well I never heard from Jersey Mike or for that matter anyone else within a few hours of me so this morning after a great breakfast of Blueberry Pancakes and turkey bacon I went to the farmers market with Bonnie.   We got lots of fresh stuff for the holidays (we have 20 something coming including all the kids and girl and boyfriends and even the family of Alana's boyfriend

Then I went back into serious where the hell is that heated jacket liner mode  Tore apart the whole house   no joy

Sorry Valkyrie its gonna be the BMW police bike's turn to play and off we went

Decided to meander across the windy Chappaqua Rd to Campwoods then up 100 to 35 and took 22 up to Wingdale and Dover which is where BigW's BBQ is located  Had a serious 1/2 lb Brisket BBQ sandwich then got another 1/2 lb to take home to Bonnie (yeah you believe she is eating that before I get it I got a bridge to sell ya)

From there I went up 22 some more and remembered that there is this road that goes up a nice ridge with switch backs and took that west  I did a few passes so one pic is stopped going west and the other is showing a 10mph sign going east   Joe could probably take it at 30 I cant

There was no wind to speak of and the views were outstanding of farm country and the hills and valleys. Had so much fun I never stopped again for a pic.  At county road 9 I headed south to 55 west then 82 south to pick up the Taconic about the border of Hopewell Junction.  The Taconic was free of state police and I just fell in with a group of cars doing 75 or so thru all the sweepers and elevation changes  The Taconic requires attention as the lanes are narrow (speed limit is 50 or 55) and there is deer and wild turkeys around at all times.

About two and a half hours of quality riding on the beemer Saw only 3 other bikes (a harley a bmw and a wing) and a spyder all day. Looks like the fair weather riders are done for the year

Who rode today?

Piece of crap computer doesnt have windows picture manager
now I have to find the password for photobucket and go thru the exercise of how to upload again,

Oss come on no pics, really?  Grin I went for a ride today and had a some time on my hands so I did a short video to see how it would work. Set up a You Tube account loaded the video put sound to it and I like it.  I have a longer one that I will post but this was all just spur of the moment. I was solo riding, a group came up behind me and we were going the same way so at a bridge opening we stopped and talked and I decided to tag along. They were going my way and it was really nice out but expecting rain and in the back I decided to see what would happen with my Iphone video.

This is Singer Island really a pretty place.

Second video is a bit better than the first and longer.

This was Oss`s pic heading into the switch backs

This was his brisket being sliced for him.

And last but not least his brisket going in the fridge.

Looks like it was a nice ride Evan. But I`m a little dissappointed you didn`t trust me with any audition pics.  2funny

OK OSS,
I can understand the ride report without politics,
BUT, a ride report from you without at least a secretary pic or two is not acceptable!

Oh, so you're around me?  Didn't know there were others.

If there were no Staties on the Taconic, on a weekend....then something went wrong  Wink  During the week?  Not a one, everyone is doing 80 in the 55, absolutely bumper-to-bumper doing it too.  If there isn't an accident almost every day on the Croton Reservoir bridge then something's wrong there, too.  But weekends?  Road is empty yet the cops are out in force.

The morons.

The Taconic is a joy for me, I've practically got it memorized I've been on it so much.  It frightens the visitors but locals do 90 in the twisties going south to Jefferson Valley - not for the squeamish but much fun!

Next time go up to Route 199 then head east, absolutely stunningly beautiful ride (wait until you see the views from the ridges).  Keep heading east after you hit 22, via some small roads, and you'll hit beautiful Connecticut back roads that can take you into the pleasant town of North Caanan, CT.  From there head north through Great Barrington to Stockbridge, MA, and visit the Norman Rockwell Museum (!!!).  A journey worth every second on the road.

Another secret:  head further north on the Taconic until you pass Lake Taghkanic State Park.  Go on a warm, sunny day and make a day of it at the park - they have a small, beautiful lake with a small beach that is wonderful, clean and uncrowded.  Have a picnic lunch or simply go up to the next exit, Route 82, and head west to find the diner.  The secret is, after lunch, keep going west on 82 for about 3 miles to find Taconic Orchards on the right, where they make homemade pies and apple cider donuts.  Yum!   Smiley

Go even further up the Taconic and find the Shaker Museum, one of the few records of that unusual religious sect, and another beautiful ride for a nice day.  Keep heading north, to the end of the Taconic, take Interstate 90 west (not east, as that's entering the toll road) then south on 787 and head over, just about 25 minutes west of the Taconic junction, to Albany and see the incredible design of Empire State Plaza, America's most expensive and probably largest state governmental seat.  Make sure to take the Mall Arterial to get to the Plaza - you can't miss it, it goes UNDER the Plaza with The Egg seemingly floating on stilts as you pass it.  Either make the loop at the end to come back or, if you want to look around, make sure you take the first right-hand exit after you come out from underneath and can see sky (tight turn!  Slow down!).  You'll be on the back side of the Plaza, park and check out the modern architecture including the kinetic sculptures, the New York State Museum (far end, short building with many windows that's not a high-rise office building) and the reflecting pool.  The State Capitol, done in Romanesque Revival, is across the street (behind you, looking across the pool to the museum).  Go down State Street to find food and get back to I787, where you can head back the way you came or continue to I87, to head south and home.

Great fun you had Evan.  I can't wait till I get another construction job in your area, well not in winter, and ride a few miles with you.  I am in Florida enjoying the weather and meeting VRCC members in the area.  This is an active group in this state.

Enjoy the season!

I too had a enjoyable ride yesterday.  Figured I needed to get it in before the white stuff hits us in the middle of the week.

Rode south out of town toward CA border. I normally this time of year, I wait till after lunch to make sure the frost is off the shaded corners.  Gear up with shell on mess jacket, chaps over my riding jeans, mid grade winter gloves and hiker boots.

It was mid 40's when I left home, it jumped up to 50 degrees when I went thru a small town close to the border about 20 miles out.  Slipped into CA without anyone noticing me.   glad our bikes aren't very visible.

Went some 55 miles of enjoyable Highway riding, very little traffic on this highway.  CA lets one ride at 65 mph legally, OR says 55 mph.   Turn off on a road that would take me back towards home thru the Lava Beds National monument.   Fun road with a 35 mph speed limit signs.  One has to ride about that speed due to a lot of potholes scattered about, especially on the corners.   Road goes mostly thru sagebrush flats with patches of pines.

Got to the edge of the monument, road improves a lot.  Still 35 mph speed but go a bit faster.  Stop at the Monument head quarters to remove some coffee.  Don't go in to register, just use the facilities.   The off towards home.

The roads so far a have been in direct sun.  Warm feeling though the temps are falling.  The road out of the Monument area goes along the Tule Lake Refuge on one side, fairly high ridge on the other.  Beautiful country, but road is shaded from the sun.  Temps drop 10 degrees.  hands get cold.  then after 15 miles break out to direct sun.  Temps rise, hand get a bit warmer.  Almost stop to put on heavy winter gloves.

Take the fun hill road home instead of Highway.  Take some 2 and a half hours to go 120 miles,  got close to 40 mpg.

I did see a 3-wheeler out and about.  Couple of bikes when I got back to town.  One was HD with Ape bars.   Not sure why in country that gets cold one would put ape hangers on a bike, hand are in direct contact with cold air.

What no pic's.   Do have a iPhone but don't take pics.  Just ride.
