2000 Valkyrie Interstate > Peterborough Ontario

« on: November 27, 2015, 02:03:54 PM »

I just installed a new Mustang seat combination on my 2000 Valkyrie Interstate.

The front section is a very tight fit and once installed ... there are some small ripples on the top coming back from the tank.  Wondering if these will go away with use ?

I checked that the tank does not have any movement ... bolts only fit in one spot ... no slotted fit.

I was going to loosen off the rear fender to see if I can gain any room there ... thought I'd ask here first for experience of others.

It is not binding on the rear seat part as ripples are there even when I leave back piece off.

The front seam of the seat is actually tucked down the front a bit ...

I have included a picture here  ( I hope ... 1st time using photostash )

Had a Mustang seat on my last bike for two years .. didn't fit as tightly so there were no ripples from being squished.

Once again ... sure appreciate this forum for all it's help ... thanks to all the members !

I'm not sure but someone told me that there is a difference between the tour and interstate in length, you might have the wrong one sent to you.

I agree. the I/S tank is longer than the Tourer or Std. If I put the I/S seat on my Std there is a gap between the tank and seat. Looks like the seat is for a Std or Tourer.

Only one size mustang seat
Maybe the crinkle will work itself out mine has a crinkle but doesn't seem as pronounced as yours

Mustang only has one seat for the Valkyrie ... ALL MODELS ... Part number 75972 ... which is what I got.  Yes the Interstate tank is larger than the Standard & Tourer.

Thanks for input so far from members with Standard & Tourer installs ... looking for more input from Interstate members that have this seat ... and whether these lines go away with time or what anyone else has done ( if anything ) about them.

I did send an Email to Mustang corp ( they didn't have facility to send pics ) ... will post here their response ... when it comes.

Unfortunately, bike just got put away for winter ( Ontario, Canada ) so will have to wait few months to see if warmth & use help these go away.

Again ... appreciate any input members have to help me with my concern.

Thanx

The Interstate tank is larger, but not longer, otherwise the tanks could not be interchangeable. At the rear of the tank is where they differ, the Interstate tank has a higher rise where the seat buts up to it than the Tourer/Standard. Perhaps the nose of the seat was built a tad too long or they built the seat for the wrong model.

Mines is the same . As Bill Jr. stated only one mustang seat I can take the one on my IS and put it on my standard and it has no wrinkle. The back of the IS tank is higher therefore it is back further where it turns down where the seat sits against it. The wrinkle in my seat may not be quite as pronounced as yours but is there. I don't see a problem with it personally.

I had the same wrinkle on my 2000 I-S.  I did not worry I just got on it and found wind.

So looks like I may have to live with small wrinkles ...

However; before I go and take the hard saddlebags off and try to loosen rear fender
    .... will I have any wiggle room there ?
    .... or are bolts for attaching rear fender a tight fit ?
    .... even 1/4" movement of the fender to the rear might help with these ripples.

Haven't heard back from Mustang company yet ... will post response when I do.

Thanx for responses ! Smiley

Ride it dude don't worry about those small wrinkles you are the only one that will ever notice them. And no you can't move any hard parts around on the bike. Only two options # 1 live with it, #2 put a standard tank on you IS and that would be ass backwards.

Mustang Corp did get back to me.  I sent them this picture.

The following was their response.

=======================================
Every model is set up to very slightly different specs. Honda needs to be sure the tolerances work with the stock seat, but obviously an aftermarket seat can have slightly wider variance. It appears to me your seat may have been fine on one bike but your setup is just a touch more confining.

One thing you can try is to massage the loose vinyl toward the tank and under the nose. That may alleviate the appearance. A little heat will also help to settle any wrinkles. Be sure to be careful with heat as you do not want to melt the vinyl – a hair dryer on low kept at least 6” from the vinyl should do the trick.
=======================================

So I'll wait till spring and see how it looks in warmer weather ... probably isn't a big deal ... other members are right ... just enjoy the ride  Smiley!
