Sometimes ya just gotta go...

Winter Springs, FL - Occasionally...

                                                    Wind Therapy

Ever find yourself in a funk? I do from time to time. Not good, of course, so what to do? I’ve found that for me, at least, Wind Therapy is about the best Funk Abatement regimen I can bring to bear… in effect, to produce a funk-ectomy that renders my mind whole with some degree of tranquility.

There is no one particular cause of which I am aware of that lamentable mental state. A contributing or facilitating factor, however, again at least in my case, is inertia. Yep, when the recliner becomes overpoweringly seductive, the TV programs generally seem to be rising to the level of acceptability, and frequent cat-naps become extremely pleasant and desirable… well… Nothing requiring any effort seems appealing then, and more of the same seems a downright worthwhile proposition. The hook has been set… the downward spiral begun…

I was wallowing in a moderate state of funkfulness the other day, when I received a PM from one of my pals. Well, I went to respond, and something often the case occurred… I started to ramble. By the time I’d finished, it had come to me that I was in dire need of a road trip…

I posted a copy of that PM, minus my pal’s name, of course… Predictably, there were some responses from some of you… As usual the advice they contained was spot-on and most helpful.

“Ride while you can, because at some point you won’t be able to,” seemed a common theme of several of those responses. Common sense, really, but with each revolution of the ‘trip log’ odometer that rolls over each year on my birthday advancing to a rather high number, this point of reminder really hits home nowadays. I long ago figured out that I wanted my old age, should I actually make it there, to be filled with fond remembrances of big adventures, not sad regrets over missed opportunities… and the amount of time to accomplish this is growing shorter!

Now, overcoming inertia is a lot easier to understand than it is to actually undertake. For starters, it requires energy, effort, and resolve… things sadly at their lowest levels during periods of funkitude.

The difficulty in overcoming this dilemma is compounded by another feature of funkiness… the ease with which we can raise ‘serious’ objections and find ‘insurmountable’ obstacles, both real and petty, to thwart our following through. ‘Not having a plan’ is an old reliable mental parasite that has sapped the momentum from more than a few of my ideas and doomed many good intentions to failure. Not this time!

Yep, I had already formed a vague mental picture of me sitting at some table with my laptop in some cottage somewhere typing about overcoming my most recent funk. “But where?” I worried, “I had no plan…” Yep, already my subconscious was eagerly at work assaulting and eroding my newest attempt to employ the cure…

But then, an old and dear friend jumped right in and offered a surefire solution… SmokinJoe posted that I should consider returning to the El Governor Motel, where we’d stayed last year on our After Christmas Ride along the Gulf coast… Eureka! That was all it took!

ALI was already loaded, so only very minor tweaking was needed to adjust things for warmer weather where we’d be going… I’d already changed her oil & filter a week or so ago, and both tires looked to still be in good shape. What else? Turn the thermostat down, leave a light on, set the alarm, ass on seat, kickstand up, garage door down, twist throttle… I did all that and here I am… Looking out the large window over the balcony and out onto the Gulf of Mexico! What funk?

Excellent Bruce. That's a great location.

I'm becoming sorely tempted to take my new lady friend there between Christmas and New Years.

Any news of any specials they may be doing at that time?

December special: $60.00 plus tax per night through December 31st. However, New Year's Eve is already booked up... vacancies for the rest of the month, though, including the week between Christmas and New Year's Eve, do exist...

While I will never have Bruce's writing skills, I find myself to be envious of his freedom.

Evening entertainment on site... Chow half a mile down the road... However, there are a couple of places that deliver, including pizza, of course, but sandwiches and meals, too... Not bad! Close enough for this dude, anyway. Why don't you and Iris come on up and join me? I'll even buy a round... or ten...

Are your gold fish frozen for the winter yet? It is a lovely pond... and that gulf... Oh my! Still, I think I'll just go with the one I've got here... Temps got up to 80*F yesterday... dropping into the low 60s tomorrow, however. I brought my Gerbers just in case...

It's worth the trip, especially if you're close.

My favorite display was one of Pappy Boyington's F4U Corsairs.

Check their web site first on certain days you can watch the Blue Angels practice their stuff and do a meet & greet with them afterwards.

Mark,

Come on down! Heck, anybody else? Deal is good for all takers... Let me know, though, as I'm thinking I'll leave Thursday morning... I can stay longer, however, if there is a need! This is good for whatever ails ya... I'm over my need for solitude now, so some socializing would be great.

If I could, I would.

However, I have to hang around and do that nasty little thing called work.

Maybe one of these days I'll be fully retired and able to run the roads anytime that i please.
