A couple of months ago Lesa lost her little Yorkie to cancer. The pup had it tough her whole 3 year existence, with skin problems and other infections. She was Lesa's sidekick though, period.  We decided to take in her replacement........ a slightly larger Yorkie.
On the left is "Star", a ten month old Great Dane. She is a sport, smart, talkative, and full of beans. Already sleeps at Lesa's feet and has filled the hole in her heart. On the right is my 11 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever "Booger". He's getting lumpy and slowing down but still never fails to chase the ball or the bear, whichever he can.

Fantastic.  Just nothing like the love of a dog.  After losing my last Golden in August that tore me up we got a new lab/golden mix two weeks ago.  Spunky and smart and full of puppy mischief.
Congrats Pappy

Wow, hope you guys have a large shovel.  Wink  Great Danes can be so funny to be around, my oldest daughter & hubby had two; male & female. The male was a huge black one that would jump and dance around when she went out to the kennel, would act like a spoiled child if she scolded him but was gentle as a lamb around her little grandson. The female, Sophie, was a beautiful silver that would come and sit next to you on the couch. Her butt on the couch and her front feet on the floor, then sit and concentrate on the TV action. If they had something on with a lot of noise and action, she'd get all hyper and sit there barking at it.....which usually drowned out the TV. When my daughter's cancer became advanced, Sophie would go lay next to her for hours. When she passed, both Danes and the little Corgi she adopted went into mourning, would only drink a little each day, maybe nibble a bit on their food. Took nearly a month for them to come out of it but according to my son-in-law, they have never been the same.

Patrick - you are correct. Didn't even realize she was in the photo. She has turned into Lesa's lap dog occasionally now. Fairly shy but she has become a bit more outgoing since the passing of little Sophie.

OK, I was hoping she wasn't the bastard stepchild of the family.

We have two Shih Tzu brothers. They're cool dogs. Wife and I have always had small lap dogs. There's a perfect logic to it. If we had a big dog and let em outside on our 3/4 acre parcel, they'd look around and say, "Is this all ya got????"
But when we let our little Shih Tzus out, they look around and think they're on the Ponderosa! It's all a matter of perspective!

That part is true.....the big ones can reach the end of the property in a few seconds. I still take the Chessie down to the lake to fetch training buoys. He loves it.
Took the Dane down to the water and she went absolutely ape $hit!!! Stuck a toe in the water, pulled off the leash somehow and away she went....tearing up the path to the road and poof.....gone! Thought we lost her. Something tells me she isn't used to water yet.......

I've always had to have big male labs. JoAnn feel in love with the runt of the Shih Tzu [sp] litter a friend had.  Of course it became my dog and I had to take care of her. But what a great little dog they are. I can walk around the neighborhood in the winter and be completely ignored by all the ladies.  Take that little dog with me and that all changes, that dog was a chick magnet.  They are neat dogs.
She would try and keep up with the labs in the back field and she'd get lost in the tall grass. You could watch the grass moving and that little dog had no idea where she was. The labs would go find her and pick her up by the scruff of the neck and bring her back. Its was a riot to watch.
You could set her on the back of the other dogs and she would hang and go for the ride with a smile on her face.

C'mon lighten up. All I'm saying is that those rose colored glasses are clouding your vision. Try this, take them off for a few minutes and you'll be amazed at what you'll see.   Smiley
