.....on "Black Friday" and bought me this.....

Then I went down the road and got me these.....

Battery powered to match my fleece jacket I sometimes wear under my leather on cold days in the spring and fall.

It says it's for a motorcycle and twice the price.  Grin I just use a regular tom tom I bought on black friday a few years ago for I think 60 bucks. Works just fine.

I also use my car GPS, a Garmin Nuvi something or other.

Works just fine, but was wondering how they are different, if at all.

I think they're supposed to be 'glove friendly'. Also water and vibration proof.....

Doesn't justify the large price increase, in my opinion.

Hmmm, is it possible 'somebody' is gearing up for some serious long distance riding? I can recognize the symptoms, ya know... I'm looking forward to seeing ya down the road some more, my good friend... You're not just a good man, you are a great road trip partner!!!

Water proof and supposedly easier to see/read in direct sunlight. Mounts are not the typical "car" mounts. They have mounts dedicated to handlebars, etc. Power supply is usually different as well instead of the typical 12V plug.

It is as you've said.

Just read the reviews on this unit ..... they are good!
I always took along my car unit in a zip-loc and it did the trick but is a hassle not being mounted properly and the battery doesn't last at all.

5 hours battery life on the "rider" even with a way brighter screen. The base comes with the hardware to hard wire it in permanent if you like and that is what I will do. Glove friendly and will route you on the winding roads if you prefer.

Under "Find" points of interest, it had find "DDT"  Wink Heck I can't go wrong with that feature!  Cheesy

The gloves are more what I'm thrilled about!
Spring and fall riding in the mountains up here can be cool even down right cold, so for me they are a good investment for sure.   coolsmiley

$225.00 US was well worth it to me to save screwing around with the car one or my phone

I use one of 2 car Garmin Nuvi's also - got an Arkon mount that protects it from the weather and I have a wiring setup off the battery. works fine (most of the time). A Zumo would be nice - the bluetooth would mate to my Sena intercom - but as the man said - "it says motorcycle and is twice the price"....

you can always go for the Garmin cycle version. Has tire monitoring and I beleive some motor stats with proper attachments for a mear 800 bucks. cooldude I would suppose or expect the cycle versions to have a better veiwable screen in sun light. I updated my boat sytem with a new lawrance which reads as clear and bright as a peice of paper in direct sunlight. For the money I would expect that or as you say why spend the money. I have a Nuvi 2509 and cannot see screen image in direct sun light.  Sad
