Heads up  to those that may also own a "Wing".... Honda has issued a 3rd brake recall .The recall covers the GL1800 model from 2001 through 2010 and 2012 through 2015. Also affected are the GL1800A from 2001 through 2005 and the GL1800B from 2013 through 2015. I took my recently purchased (some of the Indiana Dragon round-up attendees prefer to say I stole it) 2001 GL1800  to Lake City Honda in Warsaw , IN today. Rode the 65 miles in 32 degree weather..Brrrrrrrr....wasn't really too bad though with plenty-o-extra clothes on.They say they are doing all of the bikes that fall under the recall models/years.Part of the recall includes replacing both master cylinders. So if you have one , get her in.

surprised mother Honda has not gotten it right the first time?

has anyone ever experienced braking issues because of this recall ever?

My 1800 wing had the brakes lock up. At my own expense (over $200) I replaced the secondary master cylinder. My new question is, will they return my expense?

Yes!!! Stories all over the Wing board of rear brakes dragging or actually locking up! Some so bad there have been some fires!
Mother Honda never really wanted to have to spend the money to replace all these secondary master cylinders, much less the lost revenue from free labor! (Don't remember reading where they're replacing the primaries.)
Be advised, if you take your Wing in, there are all ready some horror stories about the service performed. IE;

http://gl1800riders.com/forums/4-general-mc-message-board/248009-had-brake-recall-done-anyone-else-run-into.html
This is at a dealer in S.C. He never actually names the dealer, but says there are only 2 in his area (Greenville) & this one doesn't start with "F".
If I take my '05 in, I'll video document the condition of my Wing prior to lettin' them work on it!
I would prefer they jus' sell me the new parts but...............
Here is a link to the PDF version of the Service Bulletin. (I admit, I haven't taken the time to read it all yet, my brakes are working jus' fine.)
http://www.justwings.com/uploads/SB-23_Secondary_Master_Cylinder_Replacement.pdf

Hey Hubcap, you readin' this? I'm jus' sayin..............

Your in good hands at Lake City. Been doing business with George and Charlie for almost 30 years and they are procuring a 2015 Anniversary Edition Gold Wing for me which should be there very soon. They are also doing the recall on mine before I take delivery. I am certain they will take good care of you. I have seen many horror stories regarding this recall and it all centers around horrible dealer support. No worries at Lake City!

I just picked my F6B up yesterday after Lake City Honda did the recall work. I had taken it to them the Friday before Thanksgiving and told them there was no hurry on my part to get it done because some Winter type weather was coming our way. I called them this past Wednesday to see how things were coming and was told it was done. Saturday looked like it was gonna be a decent day so I made arrangements to get it. I don't think mine was having any problems, it felt the same as always on the 45 mile ride home.

George must have another facility off site. I asked him if yours had come in yet and he said that it was in the warehouse(and we were standing in the service area) but he hadn't brought it "here" yet. I figured if it was in the storage building right behind the service area, he would have let me see it. Unless it's still in the crate.

I had my Gold Wing done at the local dealer (Santa Maria, California).  It was a positive experience.  They ordered the parts, called me when they came in and scheduled a service appointment.  It took a little over two hours to do the work, so I just waited at the dealer and read a book.

It involves changing out the secondary master cylinder (left side of front fork) and the rear master cylinder, flushing the system, and bleeding the brakes.  They do not flush the front master cylinder that is on the handlebars.

Correct, they're not interconnected in the way most people think they are. It's the "mechanical" secondary master cylinder that applies the rear brakes when the front brake lever is used.
Glad you've got a dealer you can count on. cooldude

Front brake gets you Red & Black,
Rear brake gets you Blue & Black,
but the black is actuating no matter what, if its working properly.
