My daughter at her friends house got her car backed up into by a boy in her class.  1600 dollars damage to rear door panel and rear quarter panel passenger side.  Kid NOT paying attention while backing up at his parents house.

They paid the body shop for the repair and I got the car back yesterday.  Not having much experience in 30 years of driving and dealing with body shops since never really had but one repair job ever,  gonna have to take it back under their lifetime warranty guarantee.

The paint quality, as I pointed out to them upon pickup yesterday, is piss poor on the door edge seam in a 6-8 inch repair area, very rough and doesn't look like they painted it too good in that edge either.

Got to take a closer look this morning at the inside of the rear door panel they had to take off and NOT happy now at all.  Only a 1 year old car with 16K miles, near brand new, guessing 5-7 times tops anyone has sat in the back seats ever, and there is also 3 small dents within those dents some minor paint chips on inside of the rear door by the plastic door panel they also had to take off to repaint inside.  Not noticeable unless looking for it and bend down 2 feet away from door panel, but easily seen and obvious  100% sure not there before.  Plus, a few scratches, one being 1 inch long in the plastic door panel when they pried it off looks like with a screwdriver also denting outward in 3-4 spots the plastic panel prying it off.  NOT happy,  but going back on monday to point out ALL the issues they caused, although some minor, but is a near brand new car and not fixed as OEM was prior to taking it in there.

I could be very strict which I should and have them repaint the edge of the door which I am pretty sure they will have to do since paint sucks in that 6-8" corner edge as well as replace the plastic inside door panel since that 1 inch gouge in that plastic panel is very bad and noticeable as well as repaint and dent out those 3 small minor dents on the inside of the door by the plastic panels they caused with some tool of theirs to unpry off the plastic door panel.

Some people just don't care about quality repairs anymore.  Luckily, they are a local chain collision repair facility with a lifetime warranty and so if that location cannot repair it to factory OEM like new condition as when it was prior to the accident,  I have 2-3 other local locations within that chain to go to in case they have inferior repair techs where I took it to.

I was upset the door edge was piss poor and very rough and bubbly as when I showed it to them picking it up, but with 3 small dents inside door and inside plastic door panel scratched/gouged in badly 1" long,  I am angry NOW!   tickedoff  Hey, lets take a screwdriver or other tool and pry the piss out of the plastic inside door panel and slip and gouge the plastic and create 3 small dents/minor paint chips as well, who cares right??  uglystupid2

If it was a 10+ year old car with 100K or more miles on it, I would not care as much but still want that door edge smoothed out and possible repainted, but now to cause 3-4 other minor issues just ticks me off.  All of this was done and told them I am very picky on the quality of the repair as I should be PRIOR to leaving the car with them.  The mgr. told the techs as well he said that I am very fussy on getting it to look like brand new again, guess they did not listen or care??

NOT going back ever to them since done once not to near perfection as was new OEM,  chances are they will screw it up the 2nd time as well on another body repair if needed.

Plus, the rear door very slightly jiggles/vibrates ever so slightly when opening it and am sure it did not do that before since other 3 doors open very smoothly and when denting out the inside of that rear door panel, I can see ever so slightly a flex/bend in the sheet metal still in one spot that got dented in of which 95% of people would never notice unless you knew that small 8" area was dented in previously.  The mgr. saw that flex in the sheet metal as well when I pointed it out to them, but said it was minor, but still noticeable to the human eye some 2 feet away or so.  I also think the door edge sticks out ever so slightly not aligned even with the rear quarter panel, but unless you run your finger up the door panel,  one would never notice the door sticks out 1/8" of an inch more than it should.

I guess on MOnday I will see how good their lifetime warranty on repairs are?   Angry

If they say the 3 small dents and gouge on the door panel was there prior,  I will be smoking HOT since 100% sure was not there prior to them taking inside door panel off.

If you have a GOOD camera take detailed pictures, print them, make a detailed list of the flaws in the repair work and the additional damages, both of which I'd present to the management.  If management agrees to correct any "flaws" AND repair any additional damages.  Get it in writing!   Remember, they can not prove that any of your described additional damages were there BEFORE they started the repair work.

If they don't agree, you might then consider requesting the boys parents insurance company information.

If that fails, depending upon the additional dollar amount of your claim for "proper" repairs, to include the damages caused by the repair shop, you might have to consider filing a suit against both the shop and/or the parents.  OR  You can also file a claim with your own insurance company, which may require you to pay a deductible.  All of which could lead back to the parents and a 100% recovery for you, including  the deductible you paid.

Good luck

Yah, not contacting my insurance company NO way.  They have a lifetime warranty so will be going back on Monday with the car and at least showing them the 3 minor dents/chips inside door panel, the 1 inch bad scratch on the inside plastic door panel along with the 2-3 spots they used a screwdriver caving inward 1 cm long the plastic inside door panel which is B.S. to be so NOT careful.  I want at least that bad scratch entire inside door panel replaced,  the 3 very small dents taken out, re-touched up with new paint over the smalls chips where the 3 dents are (pea size or less) by the inside body panel, and of course the edging on the door either smoothed out or probably that re-painted as well.

If anything less,   then will be taking it up with someone at the repair facility owner higher up.  If it was a 10+ year old car,  I would just have them do the edging over like I pointed out to them same day, but you would think they would have been more careful removing the inside door panel.

I had my doubts going into that shop since estimate was 250-300 dollars less than the other 2 body shops,  but figured they knew better when I told them I wanted it like OEM back again and nothing less since a 1 year old car with 16K miles on it.

It just pisses me off to NO END when incompetent, careless techs go into the shop whether repair shop or dealership for warranty work, and they attempt to fix the problem and create 2-3 more thus having to go back and back again for something they caused.  Has happened way too much at GM and Toyota dealerships for warranty repairs.   I went in for a seat repair on my previous 2012 toyota tundra under warranty and I get the truck back with an 8 inch long scratch right thru the drivers door below the handle all the way thru the paint.  They NEVER told me about it, but was obvious to anyone them thinking I would not notice or something when I left - GET REAL.  Some 800 dollar repair bill later to repaint my entire drivers door,  that Toyota dealer hopefully will be more careful next time, but NOT holding my breath since mistakes do happen, but not so much if people would be more careful and do the job right the first time.    uglystupid2
