Been holding off as long as possible hoping the extended forecast would change ( It has not ) in fact its getting wetter. Just talked with Dennis ( Troutdude ) down in Louisiana and my local group here that was making the ride. Everyone has been looking forward to this ride since it came up back in November when we started planning it. I looked at Mexico Beach in the Florida panhandle / the Folly Beach area of South Carolina as alternative options and its the same scenario RAIN .... If you still plan to ride be safe if not I suggest that if you had reservations for this ride to call and cancel.

Joe,

Dang, dude... I hate it when stuff like this becomes necessary! I agree with your call, however... In fact I've been debating with myself all week about whether or not to wimp out myself... For what it's worth, I finally decided that if y'all did go anyway,  then I'd go too... just cause I like all y'all so much...

Any chance we can look at some sort of 'alternative' plan? Like maybe the following weekend or the next? Or, possibly a non-coastal destination? While football is important and much is going on right now, most of us do have our priorities straight, and at least for myself, riding is much more important.

Weather this time of year is always more than likely going to be questionable... although, you have had some really good luck with these rides in years past... Still, real riders don't like to sit-out the season entirely, so almost any excuse to ride to almost anywhere would be mighty tempting!

If you can't adjust this, no problem, as I do understand... I can always take another solo ride in some as yet undetermined direction and of some unknown length. I love doing that, but I also really enjoy hanging with my Hillbilly & Cajun buds, too. Whatever, I'll be back in the wind soon... hope the rest of y'all will be too...

We are talking maybe going up toward Mountain City, Tennessee ( Roan Mountain State Park ) area for a couple days next week if possible. This Christmas break was my best shot and getting in some good miles on my bike I go back to work on the 4th in Kentucky. Keep a eye on the VRCC board and I'll post with a heads up if the weather cuts us some slack next week. Hal47 said he would make it next week as well.

Dang, well I was hoping to get some riding in but, I totally understand the decision.

Here I sit in Hattiesburg and it's raining like a cow peeing on a flat rock.   The Valkyrie will stay loaded.     Cry

Good call, we are about to drown down here, and no end in sight.  Not only wet, but hot, 85 deg today, with heavy fog every night.

Christmas is a good time to reflect on all the blessings in our lives... I do this myself. As I read this thread, a thought occurred to me... Among all the many wonderful things that have happened throughout my life, being a southern boy is certainly at or near the top of the list.

Yeah, we're having a really wet winter so far (is it actually winter yet?). Anyway, I've been off the road nearly a week now, and I have a raging case of cabin fever!!! Dang! I can't imagine what it would be like to face a winter non-riding season every year... especially if those seasons dragged on for several months at a time!

I've been scouring the weather maps for some semblance of a riding opportunity... It's either too cold or too wet for me to travel to any of the usual places I love to explore... BUT, I think it just might be OK to cruise around down in Florida... the peninsula, not the panhandle... Well, I reckon that just might have to do for a reason to head out again... Things like that need to be checked out, ya know... I'll let y'all know what I encounter...

Shoot dude... here at Ocean Isle North Carolina it is 80 degrees and no rain for three or four (or five?)
days...

Usually when I come here for Christmas it is 30 degrees and the wind is blowing hard all day...

I had been watching the forecast for 2 weeks in anticipation of making the Biloxi run. It just seems rare that the long range forecast would remain so consistent in the south. Oh well, at least it was a great day yesterday for a nice lunch ride into the country.
Joe, thanks for the planning....I know that bummed out feeling I get when have to cancel.
Stuff happens.

Like you I watched the extended forecast for the last couple weeks. I talked to my local ridin' buds and was getting calls and text from others that was going to make the ride and it was always the weather. We just didn't want to make a 1,200 mile round trip ride with only one maybe two days it would not be pouring rain.
