Yes he was!

Many good memories of watching the Globetrotters on Saturday evenings on ABC's Wide World of Sports.  I think they even got Howard Cosell to do commentary during the "games".

Went to see them with my dad in 63, I was 16 and played basketball. They were great. He was a awesome
player and very funny and entertaining. A good childhood memory. I am sure he will be greatly missed.

Whew!  When I read the thread title I thought Dennis Rodman had died young.   Shocked

I was able to see a game and meet him as a boy in Tucson. He was very tall to a kid in grade school. The showmanship and skill was impressive.

R.I.P. Meadowlark!  Didn't get to see him, but got to see Curly Neal and the Globetrotters when I was knee high to them.  They were all true entertainers.

The "Trotters" were true ambassadors of the game around the globe.  Even during the cold war they were allowed behind the Iron Curtain to entertain and spread an example of THE original American game.
Now, it's played everywhere around the world.                                                                                  An afternoon of good clean fun at a Globetrotter's game when clean was an operative word for families.

Poor Red Klotz of the Washington Generals, Meadowlark's foil for many years, but what a show! Grin
Godspeed, Meadowlark. angel
