got it done, two small polyps I'll find out later what's what. the hardest part was Wednesday afternoon, hungry and thinking I'll eat when I get home..... derp! no you won't. once I got home I mix up the polyethylene glycol gunk and started drinking it. stuff pretty bad and I can see some people not being able to drink it. I drank it like shots, downed it real fast before you can taste it. the morning of the procedure you can't drink any water. that's BS because you're all dehydrated from the salty crap you drank all night the procedure itself was easy for me, I was peacefully snoozing.

The first one I had , they did not give me a sedative to relax me . Towards the end of the procedure I asked a question and the nurse asked if I was awake. Yes , I was watching the whole thing . She wanted to give me a sedative , but there was less than three minutes left and I told her to just finish as I was thru the worse of it. I finished and felt like the Goodyear blimp . I could not wait to deflate. On checking out , they asked me if I had a ride , I lied and told them yes. The now ex said she didn't have time to drive me. I found out she went out to eat with a friend. I drove home myself .

I took 2 tiny little pills and drank a gallon of gatorade. Worked great for me and was not that uncomfortable. Just made sure a toilet was near. I get to do this every 5 years,, due again in May.

I've seen these kind of reports on here many times. I have to admit I only go to the doctor in emergency situations. I consider myself "A specimen of science" . I'm starting to realize I'm going to have to bite the bullet soon.

Please get 'er done asap. We lost a valued VRCC member a few years ago. These threads pop up now and then in memory of him. If you are 50 or older it's time. I had my first at 50 and had 3 polyps removed. 2nd at 60 and 1 removed. I have a friend who never bothered and had to walk around with a colostomy bag for 6 months. He's never been quite the same since he lost about 12 inches of stomach tubing.

Thanks for the reminder. No, really. I'm due to visit the ol' hoser again. Two polyps found last time, and because of family history (Dad had colon cancer) they've got me on a five year plan. I guess the best way to do it is to look forward to getting it over with!!!

I've had several. They don't issue the pills around here, for some reason they claim they don't work as well as the drink. Maybe they don't like the way they work, but, I imagine their pertinence would prefer them. We have to drink that crap twice, nasty stuff. Its harder to get the second batch down, but, it helps if its cold and you just pinch your nose and drink it right down. Hopefully, it'll stay down. The actually procedure is easy and you can watch everything they do. The best is afterward when you get to ask a pretty nurse to pull your finger.

It amazes me the people that walk around watching their diet, their alcohol content, wearing seat belts, wearing a helmet, looking both ways before crossing the street and all the other life extending actions we preform daily, and yet, can't be bothered to have a simple non-evasive procedure, that could save their lives, done. The hardest part is downing the the syrup the night before. Everyone, take the time to get it done.

Here is what I consider a classic post on the subject (If I do say myself). Note how easily some are hooked with a careful choice of subject wording. I agree with all above, get it done. And I miss you Pat! Enjoy! http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,40174.0.html

Exactly. After you drink that stuff, you'd better be within a few feet of a bathroom. I just had a lower AND an upper last month (they're trying to find out where I'm internally bleeding). It wasn't but just a few minutes after drinking that stuff and it was game on.

It's always nice to hear of a colonoscopy experience that's missing an o. More often than not they involve a couple of extra ohs.
Guys, get it done. It's a little uncomfortable in spots but a lot less so than the experience it is meant to avoid. I miss Laser Pat.

I had mine done right after LaserPat was diagnosed. I also had an upper GI which I highly recommend at the same time. A precancerous polyp was found and removed from my duodenum. It had not spread to the margins. I'm very lucky and owe a great deal to the pleas that came out after Pat's diagnosis.
I actually didn't mind the Moviprep(what my drink was called). But you sure don't want to stray too far from the throne after a couple hours of taking that stuff.
