Why would anyone shave a cow like that?

to cancer.  Bummer - always dug the riffs in Ziggy Stardust.....well, as he, himself sang, :

People stared at the makeup on his face
Laughed at his long black hair, his animal grace
The boy in the bright blue jeans
Jumped up on the stage
Lady Stardust sang his songs
Of darkness and disgrace

And he was alright, the band was altogether
Yes he was alright, the song went on forever
Yes he was awful nice
Really quite out of sight
And he sang all night long

Femme fatales emerged from shadows
To watch this creature fair
Boys stood upon their chairs
To make their point of view
I smiled sadly for a love
I could not obey
Lady Stardust sang his songs
Of darkness and dismay

And he was alright, the band was altogether
Yes he was alright, his song went on forever
And he was awful nice
Really quite paradise
And he sang all night, all night long

Oh how I sighed when they asked if I knew his name

Oh that was alright, the band was altogether
Yes he was alright and the song went on forever
He was awful nice
Really quite paradise
He sang all night long

I always thought Lady Stardust, Star, Hang On to Yourself, Ziggy Stardust and Suffragette City were rock and roll classics and the entire album was one of those you had to listen to start to finish.  Well, we lost another great icon of rock.  I mean, that album was a classic in 1972

I've got that album with different colored swirled vinyl, collectable I guess.
looks cool under a black light...  Shocked Shocked

Bowie was one the best live acts you would ever see, the ultimate professional. Always surrounded himself with the best musicians. Earl Slick, Mick Ronson, Iggy Pop, Nile Rodgers, Robert Fripp...

I saw Stevie Ray Vaughan as Bowie's guitarist on the "Serious Moonlight Tour" before SRV quit the tour. He gave professional advice to many others on how to put on a show, manage a career, and invest.

Hadn't paid a lot of attention to him in recent years, but did just release an album.
Didn't know that he'd had cancer the past couple years...

RIP, David Jones

Strange ch-ch-changes!  He was an icon.  RIP Starman.

As an aside, I hadn't noticed he had a dialation in his left eye before looking at some of these pics.  It is apparent in a couple pictures in the above article.  I had to wonder if that may have been related to his cancer.

...we will be watching much Labyrinth in our house the next few weeks...

(My wife had such a crush on him in that movie the video rental place just gave her the tape since she rented it often enough to have bought it anyway.)

He was punched in the eye by a friend when aged 15.

He also got a lollipop stick lodged in the side of his left eye when a fan threw it during a concert in Norway.

from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Bowie:
Bowie received a serious injury at school in 1962 when his friend George Underwood punched him in the left eye during a fight over a girl. Doctors feared he would become blind in that eye. After a series of operations during a four-month hospitalisation, his doctors determined that the damage could not be fully repaired and Bowie was left with faulty depth perception and a permanently dilated pupil.

I never really liked him, he was just a Fad and a Sensation, rather than the heart of the music. Not saying he didn't have talent, but he was in to the visual shock of the entertainment venue. Just because something is socially acceptable, doesn't mean it good, or its right, it just means they convinced you of it to be.

He was a bit of a strange one although immensely talented. Upon going to bed last night was listening to Clyde Lewis of Ground Zero, the show was about Bowie.  A caller called in and said that in a  book about Bowie his first wife Wendie wrote ( Backstage Pass Life on the Wild Side ) that he actually believed he was an alien and Ziggy Stardust was his a real part of him.  He was into quite a bit of  occult stuff.  Certainly explains a lot.  RIP

Stop and think!!  Why do people wear outrages cloths, piercing, Tat to the Max, shiny, glittery, flashy. I believe it is because the are starving for attention and have low opinion of themselves. Go to look at me, look at me!! Something I noticed in bands, when they lack in talent, they generally cranked the volume for attention. I may feel different than most, to me it is about the music, not flash bang ear drum blowing experience.  Speaking of the alien thing, you ever notice that people that believe in reincarnation always thought they were always someone famous in the past, not a ditch digger, or just a regular nobody person, it applies to the state of mind, to much acid.
