This shows how much the VA cares for vets, it's disgusting.

“I am not a courageous person by nature. I have simply discovered that, at certain key moments in this life, you must find courage in yourself, in order to move forward and live. It is like a muscle and it must be exercised, first a little, and then more and more.  A deep breath and a leap.”

I work for the VA. I'm a veteran having served in the Army and the Marine Corps. One tour of duty in Viet Nam with the 25th Inf. An the person who wrote that article is full of it.

There is a veterans preference for all veteran employment with the Fed.  However, this is just a few grams on the scale of decision making.  Otherwise known as more of a tie breaker than a preference.

There is also the small problem of actually being qualified for the particular job being offered.

Any time I hear VA, my eyes roll and I get that "Just peed" shake.
When I got out in '81 I went to the VA and it was not worth the hassle then, not worth the hassle now. Maybe I just got a bunch of yahoos, but I don't see much change.
Still, awfully proud to have served and enjoyed  my service.

Long waits, substandard care, incompetent workers and just disgusting treatment of the veterans is what I see at the VA offices.  Mass layoffs might be a good start, especially at higher management levels.  Naturally when you ask a Federal Employee they are underpaid, overworked and not appreciated.

What I noticed is many are related.  Like the old MCI, friends and family (not qualified people).  Why would an outsider want that type of job is beyond me.  But perhaps the suffering veterans that complain have it wrong.
