This GI in my outfit in Korea had been busted back to private three times from sergeant. He was a lifer. The guys in our motor pool, me included, took him up on an offer of $2.00 if he could drink an unlimited amount of our unlimited amount of GI beer between 5PM and the next morning when he was to rotate home. We bought beer at 10 cents/ can and sold it back to us at 15 cents. We figured WTH, no problem. The next morning the motor pool tent floor was littered with PBR empties and we stopped counting at 25 cans!! Sad Sack (I don't remember his real name)was also a chow hound. Wayne, that's a hilarious picture, wonder if he suffered from alcohol poisoning after all those beers. We had a guy much like him in our outfit at Pease AFB in New Hampshire. |

Thanks for sharing!
I'm glad that it was an option and not mandatory for my generation, but the last few years I've started having regrets that I never served. Not only missing out the opportunity to give back, but the lifelong camaraderie and brotherhoods that are formed in that crucible...

A slow day in my outfit, the 618th Medical Clearing company. This is the entire motor pool personnel except for me. The money that you see is MPS (military payment script). Note that all haircuts were short unlike the tV series MASH which was wrong in that respect.  |

Didn't get sick or die but I wouldn't want to be eating them full time. The smokes enclosed went up rather quickly. The ONLY good thing I M H O was the fruit cocktail but I wouldn't go outa my way to get some. The chocolate that was in there had turned from dark brown to almost white. Loved that little P-38 can opener though. RIDE SAFE. |

When I was Active Duty Army in the early 80's we routinely ate C-Rations that had been packaged in the late 60's. +1 on the P-38 it's a very handy thing to have around. |
