This video is from Point Pleasant/Manasquan Inlet here in NJ. This is a main waterway leading to the ocean. From where this video is shot it is about 1/4 mile to the ocean (to the right in the video).

Just to give you an idea what it is normally like, you see the bench...there is a 4 foot drop off there for people to walk and fish from a wall separating the land from the inlet. Out toward the water in between some of the waves you will see the top of the wall that makes the separation. That wall is usually 5 feet above the normal high tide mark.

This is where all our commercial and recreational boats use and our Coast Guard Station is right there too.

Yep, that is water splashing.   

I once saw in Milwaukee WI 20 foot high or higher crashing waves from Lake Michigan going OVER the break wall barrier 50 feet inward in 50 mph windy, NASTY conditions, almost like a tsunami.    We stayed back far enough in the parkng lot to get splashed badly sitting in the truck but didn't dare going on foot any closer since would have knocked us over and backwards very hard on foot for sure.

Don't mess with mother nature and some people have to learn the hard way not seeing tomorrow like the idiots going thru washed out flooded roads the river over the road being over the floorboards.
