Last Friday I went into the hospital for a kidney biopsy.  It went well, doc got 6 samples. Spent the next 6 hours flat on my back to let the kidney heal. That sucked. My wife Twila had to feed me not to mention help me do something else I won't go into here.  LOL.

Fast forward to Wed this week. Went to my nephrolagist. He told me I have IgA also known as Berger's desease. There is no cure. The damage is done.  The treatment at this time is to use prednisone for 6 months. My first treatment was done yesterday by IV. Since then I have had this nasty taste, yuck. I hope this goes away.  From now on I am taking pills every other day for the next six months. Also including two more IV infusions in that time frame.  I already have cut back on my sodium intake now with the use of prednisone possibly causing diabetes I have to watch my sugar intake. No more mountain dew or southern sweet  tea.

So that is my diagnosis in a nut shell. If this treatment doesn't work then there is a possibility I may have to do kidney diallisis then transplant. That is worse case scenario. My doc is going to his best to keep that from happening.  I just have to do my part. This treatment shouldn't effect my life to much. Still planing on inzane. I want to thank everyone for their well wishes.

Sorry to read this, Mark, but it looks like the diagnosis and treatment is a good thing. The future is unknown, and I pray you will have a long, painless, and uncomplicated one. You'll have to tell us more about Twila's new job someday...

Stay away from the sugar is smart, dont need more troubles

The docs agree Prednisone is the cause of most of my vision
limitations now, pay attention to any changes in vision Please.  The stuff is nasty even if sometimes necessary.

Do what they say and you will be fine...WATER.......I have one of those diseases there is no cure for to it's call Sarcoidosis. They don't know exactly how you get it but hey figure I got into something fighting fire???? No cure but they say it can go into remission. I've had this crap for a long time and I don't see that happening.

Mine forms calcium that is why they figure that I have had a recent bout of kidney stones. Very little if any salt, no ice cream   Sad  ???, and only as little calcium as is necessary. No Rolaids (calcium) an can only use Gaviscon if I have heartburn. Fatigue and constant pain are the biggest problems. It's great to get old. Take care of yourself!

The other draw back to prednisone is if taken to long it will
eat holes in your bones. Yes you heard me right.
My Gastro doctor has refused to put me on for just
that reason.
Just have to have bone density test done while on it.
Keep up the good fight. Also Rembert to smile and
kiss the ones you love like you mean it.

I don't either.

I'm stage IV Renal Cell Carcinoma.  I am terminal.

Lost my right kidney back in 2005....lost the left adrenal 2014 almost 9 years to the day they took the right kidney.

Now I only have the left kidney.

Also have severe anemia.  The chemo seems to be killing all of my red blood cells.  Have to get my blood checked once per week followed with a blood transfusion once ever two weeks.  That takes about 4 to 5 hours for that little treat.  Chemo is a drug called Afinitor.  This is the second chemo that they've had me on.  The first one was a drug called Votrient.

The Votrient turned my hair and beard snow white.....the Afinitor has turned it almost black.   Shocked  I've been dirty blond my entire adult life....never have had hair this dark before....it's pretty weird to look at myself in the mirror lately.

Docs said that I might have anywhere from 3 to 5 or as much as 8 to 9 years left.   I'm hoping for the later.   Wink  I figure kidney failure will probably get me long before the cancer does anyway.

None of that really matters to me btw.  It is what it is.  What really matters is that I've lost about 85 pounds along with a ton of muscle.  Bike is way too heavy for me now and I can no longer ride.  I miss riding.   Sad

BF, I'm sure you do miss riding.  Undecided I'm sure all of us here would, we are with in spirit buddy  Smiley I hope you make it even past their guesses. Just lost a friend that I worked with for years. He wasn't even 50 yet. Hang in there. Hope you are able to get on here more. It doesn't matter that you aren't riding to us.  cooldude

Mark

I'm sorry to hear of the health issues - but I'm glad you got it checked out and knowing what's wrong is the start of the cure.  I pray that the medication works like it should.

Looking forward to seeing you at InZane.
