is it just me, or are our Valks getting cheaper than what I believe they should sell for?

I was surfing the net and found a pristine looking 1997 black std. nicely appointed with 25K miles is all for 3900 and a plain jane 2001 Valk I/S red/black with I think around 40-50K miles for 5900 as well both fairly close by.

I was thinking sight unseen a std. should be with those low of miles around 5K top end,  tourer 6k, and an I/S 7K range, agree or not??  Am I about 1 grand thinking too high assuming all in above average condition, more like 4,5,6K (std,tourer,I/S).

Granted,  sparkles and extra useful features do add some value, but not as much as some think usually never over 1/2 of value of what paid for them new.

My thought would be condition due to NOT being ridden daily.  Checking rubber and carbs would be a must.

My wife's co-worker found one two weeks ago for $800. Went with him to check it out, and found a virtually new (1,580 miles) 2001 Standard.

The previous owner had new tires installed and the carbs rebuilt and a new battery installed at a local powersport retailer before trying to trade it in at a local HD dealer. The HD dealer offer $300 dollars in trade, so it was a "No-Go".

The old Valk owner tried to sell it on craigslist and the local paper classifieds without a single call in three months. My wife's co-worker heard about it through "word of mouth" and my wife had him contact me to look at it for him. I told him to offer whatever the old owner wanted ($1,500.), but he low balled the him at $800. and the owner jumped at it.

The old owner already had the new HD and needed the room and was convinced (by the HD dealer, no doubt) that the Valk had very little value. I've heard this was a common practice for some dealers.

The new owner now needs to learn to ride a motorcycle before can handle this windfall. I wish him Good Luck.

800 bucks WOW,  even 1500 is a steal.

I still see early to mid 1980's Honda Magna's with 20-50K miles still going for 1500 bucks, some like the V65 asking 3 grand which is NUTS since that is what I could have bought in 1989 a slightly used one for back in the day.    I think NEW back then was pushing 4K back in 1984 or so.  I still remember to this day sitting at a local Honda dealership revving the engine newly cycle licensed never owning a cycle before and going to college age 19 back in 1989 drewling over that pristine 1984 honda v65 magna ONLY 800 miles on it like new condition and dealer wanted 3 grand that I did NOT have at the time.    Cry

I think even 1500 is a tad high for a 30+ year old cycle since I bought my 1984 Honda Magna in 1989 for around 1600 and sold it in 1997 for 1500 bucks.    Yah, I got a GREAT deal in 1989, but still wasn't worth over 2 grand being 5 years old at the time and about 14K miles.

And here I have been finding used 2001 maroon red Wings with 30-50K miles on them privately owned in very good condition loaded with extras within 3-4 hour drives from me on sale right now one for 7 grand, the other 8 grand, thinking they are great deals???   Roll Eyes  Yet, I see Honda dealerships having that same year 2001 Wing with 100K miles on it asking 9 grand still...   uglystupid2

No. It is not my bike. I have no connection to it.

I simply noticed it in Craig's List and thought the price was too low for what appeared to be an above average Standard.

Actually, after seeing the price, I halfway expected it to be either hydrolocked or not running for some other reason

As to Valk prices, Little Rock CL has ten Valks listed. All are Standards or Tourers, no Interstates.  The asking prices tange from the 3,300 to 8,500. They all seem to be good to excellent bikes. All of the bikes are below 45,000 with most well below that. (One 2,300).

BTW, it appears that the 3,300 Valk has sold since this morning.

Here's another one listed in the same C.L. But under cycle parts for $2500.
